“Nice room...grumpy staff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2011 via mobile

Good value and room was nice, eventually. Initially given the key to an occupied room by the monosyllabic desk clerk. If he smiled once or strung 2 words together, I must have missed it. After going all the way to the room, finding someone's belongings in there, and hauling back down to tell Mr Sunshine, he acted put out. After not saying anything at all for 3-4 minutes while checking his computer, he thrust a new key at me. Never an apology.

Again, nice place and a decent value, but the front desk is the face of your hotel. I'd hate to see who they turned away from that job.

By the way, a woman who was, I believe a manager, witnessed both exchanges without comment.

If you have a choice, dont stay here. After Hurricane Irene came through, my reserved hotel was not available due to power outages so I stayed at the La Quinta Inn in New Haven, Ct. The building is nice, the rooms are ok except there was no mini-fridge as advertised. The customer service was the worst Ive ever seen. There must have been a towel shortage. There were people lined up at the front desk every night asking for towels because housekeeping never left any in the rooms. THey would take the used towels and not replace them. Along with the coffee packs, never got one for the mini-pot.
Came in one evening to find the trash can sitting on the desk, unemptied and the coffee pot sitting on the bed. When I or other guests I overheard would nicely request to get replacement towels or something, the desk staff was insulting and defensive.
The key card never worked, I started stopping at the desk every night to have it reactivated, before going up the elevator to find I couldnt get in my room.
Very disappointed in my stay there.

Stayed here for a couple nights post Hurricane Irene because they had power and we didn't at home and it was pretty cheap. I wouldn't go back here. The room was ok, mostly clean. No bugs or anything, just very worn and a little dingy. The bathroom door didn't close fully. One of the queen beds in our room had a huge hole in the middle, something I'd expect to find at a hotel that rents by the hour (needless to say, we didn't use that bed). The other bed, which we used, was hard as a rock. Housekeeping was very spotty, one day we got back in the evening and we have no towels in the bathroom. We also couldn't get foam pillows (necessary due to allergies), so the first night we had to use sweatshirts and towels, not cool. The ice bucket (really just a small plastic container) had a hole in the side, so it made a pretty big mess. They had power and availability, which is what we needed at the time, but this is not a place I can recommend. Breakfast was pretty good though, and the free wifi was quite fast.

Slept here for a couple of nights and I have no real complaints. Breakfast could maybe have been a litle more diversified, but it wasn't bad either.

This was such an inexpensive option that the fancy hotels (with Yale in the name) just could not compete. Because the La Quinta had nice clean rooms, LARGE beds (queen rather than full, which most other local hotels/inns had), free parking, and FREE breakfast. There was a free shuttle to take you around locally, saving you on parking costs in New Haven.
I was worried when my room was near the elevator, but the room was quiet. had no problem with noise.
I stay all over the US for business, but this was personal trip. Overall, no complaints from me or my two teenagers!

All I can say is "rough". It is right on the highway. Bedding is very old and lumpy, daughter slept on pull-out sofa...when we opened it two springs fell off, very thin mattress.

Room Tip: get room on the side of building away from street; street sounds through very thin wall make sleepi...
