“Nice respite in the middle of a busy city”

I had business in this city and with Yale University in session, accommodations were sparse so I settled on the Courtyard. The location was right in the middle of the Yale campus but quiet enough to be a haven from the bustle.
The rooms were clean and well-maintained. The front desk personnel were a bit snippy but at best efficient. There was a nice outdoor picnic-type area. The parking is a little confusing with both indoor and outdoor spots. You need to get a sign from the front desk and go back to your car to place it on the dashboard.
The only real drawback was the front desk personnel. Other than that, I'd recommend it!

“Our #1 hotel choice in New Haven”

Since the summer of 2001 (this property was actually a Holiday Inn at that time), we have been staying at this hotel. It is our first choice for accomodations in New Haven. I agree that the neighborhood to the left of the hotel is sketchy, especially at night, however, to the right is the Yale campus and immediately surrounding area with bookstores, shops, and restaurants.

Even when the property was a Holiday Inn and before it had its interior redecorated, we've been pleased with the service and cleanliness. Actually, it's just gotten better now that it is a Marriott property.

New Haven does have many social problems with violent crime, homelessness, poverty, etc. On the other hand, just as in any city, one needs to be aware of one's surroundings and make good choices.

that New Haven was such a dump! There is a lot of violent crimes in that small city. 3 people were shot the night we got there sadly.

First off, we got a cab there which was like 20 dollars including the tip. The hotel is quite aways from the small airport in New Haven.

My friends and I got checked in quickly. The girls at the desk were really nice and professional. Our room was pretty standard. 2 double beds, bathroom, TV, desk, chair and a nightstand. They did give us some goodies like Oreo cookies or something like that. Normal toiletries and hair dryer were in the room as well. The location is near the end of campus but, the campus is pretty big. We had to get cabs everyday to make it to Yale's nursing building for a class which was like 2 miles away from the hotel and across a freeway! But, even with the cab rides (we walked back) it was cheaper than then the Omni.

There are many good places to eat around the hotel. The people at the desk have maps and good suggestions. We went to a nightclub/bar called BAR which was really fun.

The town is not old CT charming. It is old with a high violent crime rate...... the cab driver told us never to go Left when leaving the hotel. We never did and all of us felt pretty safe our entire trip.

Normal Marriott quality! I would stay there again unless the Omni was only 40 dollars more.

Oh yeah, there was a wedding being held there that weekend and I never heard any noise. If fact, I didn't even know there was a wedding their until I saw the bride in the elevator.

Have a nice visit!

The hotel itself is great. The rooms are nicely furnished, LG television was nice, water pressure was excellent. Complimentary chips and water are there which was really nice. Staff are excellent. Really nice and hospitable. You go outside the hotel its a bit scary. Go left and its crack town. There is a Rite-Aid close by but its scary. We went there during the daytime and in the aisles as we were shopping we were asked for money by some homeless people.

Go right and everything is fine. You're really close to the university, food, and shopping. Very nice hotel but just be very aware of your surroundings and yourself. It is a scary neighborhood.

“Good!”

Courtyard by Marriott New Haven at Yale

May 9, 2007

I liked this hotel. I found the staff pleasant and professional. The room was fine with complementary chips and water - odd how a small thing like that is so pleasant. Wi-fi was free and good. Breakfast buffet was nice and varied for the usual $16 that hotels seem to always charge.

I agree with other reviewers; the hotel is on the edge of a seedy-looking neighbourhood, but I didn't encounter any problems. For additional safety the entrances are controlled and watched by staff.. Walk the other way and you're immediately on the Yale campus and close to all the stores and restaurants along Broadway, etc.

Overall a good basic hotel.
