“Nice hotel for a Visit to Yale”

I stayed for one night at the Courtyard and had a pleasant stay. The room was standard, if slightly small. Parking was quite expensive (13$ with taxes) but is limited in the area so this may be typical. The upside is that the hotel allowed me to keep my car in their lot even after checkout while I interviewed at Yale. They also paid for my cab fare to the interview site. They appear to be doing renovations to the outside areas and some of the rooms, which caused some noise and debris. Overall, a stay that met my expectations, but did not exceed.

“By Default - Decent Place to Stay”

A very short walk to Yale, this is a decent, but not great hotel. Staff was very friendly, room was ship-shape, but there seemed to be a need for greater soundproofing. I set a wake up call for early and could then hear a neighbor snoring! Not loudly, but still....

There aren't many decent places to stay in walking distance of Yale. My understanding is that the Omni is very nice, but it is also considerably more expensive than the Courtyard. Assuming another trip to New Haven and assuming I'm footing the bill, I'd probably stay at the Courtyard again.

Another reviewer mentioned that the hotel was on the cusp of a neighborhood change. Admittedly I could see no reason to walk that way, but felt very safe at night near the hotel walking Yale-ward. Indeed, there are many moderately priced eateries nearby (remember, those student budgets).

“Good hotel for visiting Yale”

Courtyard by Marriott New Haven at Yale

Nov 11, 2007

This is a comfortable hotel that is close to Yale University and all the the local shops and restaurants that you find in a university town.

We were a little worried by previous reviews stating that the location of the hotel bordered on a suspicious neighbourhood and they are right. The University and the better parts of New Haven are situated to the right of the hotel. By turning left you appear to go into a run down area of town.

That should not put you off this hotel, the staff were friendly, although they tried to recharge us for a room that had already been pre paid. Our room was spacoius and clean and included normal facilities like a fridge, television and coffee making machine. There is a large parking lot which is self parking at a fee of $12 per night. The rooms had internet access if required but this was the only hotel we stayed in that did not have a business centre for those guests who were not carrying a lap top.

The hotel provides a paid breakfast although the hotel literature does not mention the fact that there is a charge for breakfast.

Also be aware whilst we were staying there the hotel was going through some renovation work so be prepared to be woken by drilling from around 8.00am.

All in all not a bad hotel to use if like us you are on a road trip for a one or two night stay.

“Okay hotel near Yale”

First, the positives: the room was clean, the beds are comfortable, the complimentary internet was quick and the staff at reception were friendly and helpful.

The negative was the bathroom. The taps for the bath was located right next to the toilet and there isn't much space between the toilet and the bath. So, the toilet got wet after starting the shower. There were also two spot of blood stains on the bath floor. Disgusting.

We also experienced a lot of noise from one of our neighbours, which is not a fault of the hotel, but it did not improve our experience at the Courtyard Marriott in New Haven.

The location was good though as it was close to Yale.

“A pleasant stay”

I returned to Yale for a reunion. The Courtyard was very pleasant - a warm greeting at reception, room spotless, bed extremely comfortable, and the hotel was quiet. Breakfast buffet was well laid out with many choices.

Reception staff were gracious - they called several taxis for me which came in five minutes. The hotel is a few minutes walk to Yale.
