We recently had dinner at the Istanbul Cafe and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Service was friendly and nicely paced and appetizers and entrees were tasty and well presented. Of special note was the Turkish bread which was handy for scouping up the mezze which included an array of choices. Along with the standard hummus and baba ganouch, several other mixtures were included, one with shredded carrots and another with spinach. Entrees were the expected kabobs and rice which were excellent; I chose the chicken and my husband had the meat combination plate. Our least favorite was my son's seafood and cheese casserole which he claimed didn't have much flavor. The only other issue that I want to mention is that the restaurant is not BYOB, which increases the cost. However, we certainly plan to return in future visits to New Haven.
