“Convenient”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2014

The hotel is convenient to Yale and rooms are clean and spacious. The bathroom is tiny and has an awkward arrangement which makes it difficult to close the door when inside. The staff was helpful, they put my cold pack in the freezer overnight. Complementary cookies, fruit and cold water are available in the lobby and there is coffee there in the morning. My main complaint relates to the valet parking. We were not told of the cost involved and were not offered any alternatives. When we mentioned this at checkout we were told that we should have asked; an inappropriate response.

Once for the Yale v. Harvard game and then for graduation. Both times the hospitality was overwhelming at The study. For Harvard v. Yale, they had beer, tailgating type bites, and even Yale scarves as a giveaway in the lobby.

I have to say and not with carefree abandon, that I loved this place but then I am biased, I'm European. It was great to walk into a place that was understated in style but familiar. I love America and all that but do tire of the over exuberance and over the top style that is so common here. I like politeness but not when it is the script and not sincere.if Europeans can be or seem to be snooty to Americans it's because they want to keep part of themselves to themselves - the study ticked those boxes as it all felt like I'd just arrived in London or Paris after a six hour flight. The room we got was spacious with a great urban view across rooftops of New Haven, the bed extremely comfortable and the bathroom spacious enough to hang things all over the place plus they left nice products in place. Being late on arrival we had room service which I wish I could complain about but can only say my wine choice could have been better. The food was great as was the breakfast the following morning ; all reasonably priced. The service efficient and the staff courteous . What more can I say. Oh yeah, they allow dogs. Next time i long for a bit of Europe I'll check into the Study .

The Study is a welcome addition to New Haven's hotel options. It has a contemporary elegance that is simply unavailable from any other hotel in the city. The rooms are pricey relative to other local options, but the Study's service is impeccable. One example: we called downstairs with a question about local policies about street-parking on federal holidays (our stay was over Memorial Day), and the desk clerk did online research in order to find a definitive answer for us. He then called the room with the information. The hotel's cleaning staff was also on par with what I've seen at five-star hotels in the city and Europe. In the end, the quality of the hotel justified the $300/night cost. If you are comfortable with the cost, the Study is the BEST option in New Haven.

We stayed at The Study for one night recently and had an overall positive experience, with a few minor issues.
The best part was the food at Heirloom which we ordered for room service to satisfy some late night cravings-- the pate plate and the beet humus w crudites were surprisingly good! The room was clean and mostly comfortable.
Our main complaints were the street noise (our room was facing Chapel St on the 5th F) and the lack of seating within the room. The hotel advertises 'read in a soft leather chair' but there was none our room and w only 1 desk chair, my husband and I couldn't even sit together to eat our food. This seems problematic to us given how much we had to pay for the room.

I had read other reviews warning about street noise but being New Yorkers and former Yale students, we thought to ourselves, "how bad could street noise be on Chapel? Especially in June when school's already out." We were WRONG. There were sirens all night and motorcycles roaring past, it was unbelievable. During what little fitful sleep I got that night I dreamt of fire engines!
So, please heed the warnings regarding street noise unless you can sleep through any amount of noise.

Room Tip: Don't get a room facing Chapel St. You may need to ask for extra seating if you are not travelin...

The study has a great boutique feel when you walk through the lobby doors. Check-in was fast and friendly. We never had to wait for an elevator. And we walked into a crisp, clean room with a white marble bathroom and a seersucker robe, natural linens on bed and a great air conditioning system. View is good, not great. We overlooked new haven roof tops. The food at the restaurant was pricey and to froufrou for my 17-year-old boys. It is a farm to table venue and there wasn't much on the menu that you would recognize. I was just too tired to go searching for Pepe pizza.

We were invited to a wedding at Yale and this was one of the venues listed to stay at for the event. Glad we chose this hotel. It is a great location and was a fun place to stay.

The hotel is cool and well appointed. The staff was helpful and very friendly.
The bed was comfortable and the room itself was a relaxing place to hang out and read.
