My husband and I warily stayed at the Duncan in spite of mixed reviews. Upon arriving, we found the main foyer to be quite charming. The staff was friendly enough. We asked for a newly remodeled room which was very plain but clean. The hotel is in the historical section of the city where there are many beautiful buildings to look at. It still has the feel of the late 1800's, when it was built. This is not for people who enjoy the glitz and stiff professionalism of modern hotels. The towels are not the thickest and you don't get complimentary shampoos and lotions, but really, who cares?! One would need to understand historical buildings in order to appreciate staying here. The architecture and woodwork are gorgeous! With a little interior decorating, the hotel has the potential to be something grand. I liked it and would stay again.
