“Nice hotel, great location bit very loud”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2011 via mobile

We recently stayed at this hotel for wedding in down town new haven. The location was awesome. It was walking distance from all the places we needed to be. Valet and check in were both friendly and polite. Our room was very nice.

We left for the wedding, but when we returned around 11:30 pm, our room (which was on temple street side across from the bars) The room sounded like we were in the middle of the club. It was awful. The music was blasting, people were partying in the streets and cops were driving up and down the road until 3:00am. We were unable to sleep at all until after the bars closed and people cleared the streets.

I was very disappointed - so I talked with the staff about it. I was extremely surprised that they were very sympathetic to us and actually gave us a credit for a complimentary night's stay and breakfast. We were really pleased with their prompt and fair response.

So lesson learned - if you are planning on staying here and want some sleep - request to stay on the quiet side of the hotel.

Once again we apologize that your stay was disrupted by the downtown activity. When you return, it will be our pleasure to place you in a quieter area of the hotel. Thank you for your patience and we look forward to welcoming you back.

Stayed at the Omni on 9/24 and despite the fact that the hotel was full with a conference and 5 weddings going on the valet and front desk personnel were very efficient and friendly. The room was what one would expect of an Omni hotel, functional without being overly luxurious. The only real complaint we had was the AC was not sufficient enough to cool the room to our liking. We didn't call the front desk as we assumed that the room word get cooler during the night but that didn't happen.

The highlight, however, was having dinner at the hotel restaurant. Everything starting with the Sweet Corn Soup and Lobster and Shrimp appetizers and finishing with the Banana Foster dessert with steaks in between was excellent including the service and view. One word of caution it is an expensive meal but well worth it.

This hotel is in dire need of updating. It is in a great location, however, the wallpaper and floor molding was peeling. There is a cheap dorm-type mirror glued to the back of the bathroom door. The furnishings are old and worn. Worst of all, were the paper-thin walls. I could hear the conversation of the guest in the room next to me like he was sitting in my room! I also awoke very early to the alarms of the guests on either side of me. Not an enjoyable experience.
With that said, the bed was very comfortable and the service was good. We enjoyed the breakfast buffet on the 19th floor which, although quite pricey, included delicious fresh fruit, quiche, and many other very tasty choices. I am glad I did not pay full price for my stay and will look for another hotel if I have to return to this area.

This hotel is convenient to downtown New Have and Yale, but it is very expensive for the value received. The parking is expensive and is not owned by the hotel. The doorman when we first arrived was very rude and would not allow us to unload the car at the front door. We were forced to park in the garage, but then could not get into the hotel because we did not have a key card. A hell of a way to start a stay at a $200+/night hotel!

Room Tip: Stay away from the street side

We stayed at the Omni hotel At Yale earlier this month. The hotel is an older property but the rooms were modern. Attached business include Jobella Day Spa, Cask Republic Pub and Barcelona Tapas(a must try). The eateries and bar in the hotel were damaged due to a rain storm so we did not try them.

Parking: The hotel has an underground parking lot. I have a SUV and could fit in most spaced. The parking was $20 for a 24hr period and the ability to come and go. There is an elevator from the garage that brings you to the lobby or a higher floor. You can also choose valet for extra $.

Room: When we arrived the room was not ready so we were moved to a different floor. I'd asked for a quiet floor because there were wedding parites in the hotel. Everything was modern from the TV and the Decor' and the room was clean. We did not have a corner room so the room was a bit small. We could hear a flushing of the toilet from the room above us but we kept the bathroom door close and that seemed to solve the problem. Our room overlooked the New Haven Green and the Yale Campus, however, about 9am the music on the green could be heard in our room. The windows are not sound proof and we were on th 12th loor.

Room service: We used room service twice. The food quality was good and they provided a table of us to eat on. The staff addressed us by name and were friendly.

Location: This is a place were you can park your car and walk to Yale, the New Haven Green and places to eat.

I would suggest signing up for the select guest program so you can take advantage of serivces such as morning beverage and newspaper delivery, complimentary wireless internet.

Room Tip: Try area eateries. Barcelona's is attached to hotel. As for high floor room to avoid road noise.

Took me a while to write this review but its worth it...I arrived there on the 1st of July 2011 from the Bahamas on a visit to see my girlfriend who was studying at Yale for the summer. Let me first state that i'm a member of their loyalty program and had checked in online hoping to pick up my keys without going to the front desk. On arrival i was met by the bellman and i went inside to pick up my keys, they were not there, so i headed to the front desk. I was told by the receptionist that my card was declined, i knew i had funds to cover my stay and some. Panic struck because i'm from the Bahamas in another country. After unsuccessful calls to some friends and buying some Skype mins with the same card i went back to the front desk. I ask how much they charge the card for; (my 5 nights was suppose to be $584.10) they said a little over $800.00 i was like what the hell is that for? It seems they charge extra just in case you use the mini bar or room service and that was hotel policy, i said i needed none of that. Jim was the receptionist at that time and he helped me out great, he went ask his manager to waive the extra authorization on my card and after about 40 mins of panic i was checked in.

I must say Jim went the extra mile in helping me out that night, the service was great and i would definitely stay there again. The room was nice we were greeted with a free snack and beverage in the room and a free beverage every morning (juice or coffee). Turn down evening service was great and it's what I expected from a luxury hotel. Clean bathrooms modern and updated, I got a corner room which is always spacious and nice. Its right down the street from Yale and New Haven green close to restaurants and other local attractions. As a Select Guess member i was also able to receive free wifi.

Overall i would make Omni my first choice when travelling anywhere because of the great service i received from Jim and Omni New Haven. If you are choosing a hotel while in New Haven Stay here it's a little on the expensive side but it's worth it. DON'T LISTEN TO THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS!

Room Tip: Corner rooms are the best nice and spacious with a good view of New Haven Green and the Harbor.

The Omni is located in downtown New Haven, walking distance to shops, restaurants, movies, and the Yale Campus and its museums. The rooms are of adequate size, with smaller bathrooms. The beds are comfortable, and cleanliness is good. The location is ideal for anyone who has business at Yale; its proximity to all conveniences is its most attractive feature. The concierge is knowledgeable and can direct the guest to a variety of restaurants and shops. The hotel is across the street from New Haven Green, a lovely place to walk and enjoy the park setting during good weather. The hotel's restaurant on the top floor has unobstructed city views and upscale food served by experienced wait staff.
