I think the family of ants living in our hotel room enjoyed our stay more than we did.
Based on the advertising on the hotel website, I was looking forward to our stay at the Inn at Mystic. Our first room was dark, covered with dirty carpet, and the jacuzzi was basically in a closet. The jacuzzi was covered with the same dirty carpet and surrounded by mirrors. Rather than romantic and cozy, the jacuzzi area reminded me of something you might find at a motel that rents rooms by the hour. The room smelled like a burning fireplace, which made me wonder about the air circulation since it was now July. After our first 5 minutes in the room, the ants began emerging from the heating vent near the bed. The receptionist apologized and switched our room to one with a "water view."
From our second room, we were able to see some water beyond the parking lot. Our second room was not much better, same dirty carpet, moldy tile in the bathroom, and horrible moldy smell!! Our family complained of similar problems in their rooms and our nephew was having asthma attacks (which he hardly ever has) from the dirty carpet and poor air circulation.
We stayed one night and unfortunately had dinner at the horrible restaurant. Luckily we found rooms at the nearby Hilton for the rest of our stay.

Awful, smelly, filthy rooms very comparable to a motor inn next to the car park. Awful food in the restaurant (though, I have to admit, the service was very good at the restaurant). Really rude and unhelpful staff. Mystic is lovely but my trip was completely spoiled by this horrible hotel that claimed to be completely something else on the website. The least they can do is be honest about themselves - that they are a little worse and less clean than a Motel 8.

“Don't listen to the negatives”

Inn at Mystic

I never write these reviews, yet there were so many negative reviews of this place I just had to set it straight. No doubt some people had a negative experience and yet I wonder if some of them are just way too picky or even spoiled. Yes it's basically a motor lodge. It's not fancy and its like most 2-3 star hotel rooms. Our room had a good view of the water, I am sure some rooms have a blocked view. You want a view ? Ask. Plus you can walk 50 feet to the top of the rock outcrop, sit on the benches and get a great view.

The room we had was clean, fairly large, and very quiet since the hotel buildings are away from Route 1. The grounds were pleasant with some areas to roam. Quite close to Mystic Seaport and downtown Mystic. It is not a four star hotel so nothing fancy and perfectly comfortable. The buffet breakfast was very ample with lots to eat and as much as you want, and the quality quite decent. The dining room is reasonably nice--again not fancy--and if you get there early you can have a view. You even get a complimentary NY Times-- a big upgrade from USA today.

I talked to the manager Jody, who has been there over twenty years. She was nice and accomadating with no pretension. Mid week for 2 adults 2 kids for $115. What more can you expect? Okay feather pillows!

“Beatiful scenery”

Inn at Mystic

Fantastic setting. We stayed in the Mansion House in the same room that Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall stayed in on their honeymon. absolutley amazing settings and beautiful scenery. Rooms immaculate, 4 poster beds and japanese soaking tubs and roaring fires. The perfect setting for a romantic night. Had a very 'colonial' feel to the place but the teas and cream cakes in the afternoon were very well recieved. Highly recommended

“It was only alright”

Inn at Mystic

We were given a room that seemed sort of like a Motor-Lodge type room. There was a fireplace in the room and the room had a very heavy smell of fireplace smoke, like maybe the smoke out take is not great. The view was there....but you have to stand on tip toes and look out a window to see it. Not the kind of thing you can open your window and sit and enjoy the view. We did enjoy the jacuzzi tub. Pretty well worn room. TV was very small and in a cabinent that was not across from the bed...so no relaxing in bed with a cup of coffee and catching up on the news. We went to the museum so missed the tea. The breakfast was good. Lots of food and lots of choices. We were treated fine by the staff at check in. They let us look at a second room in the Mansion but the women who were over there were less than welcoming. We decided to stay in the other section after all for the privacy. We slept fine in the room. Bathroom was okay...just had a motel feel to the entire room. It is pretty pricey for what you get. We ate dinner in the bar since we were tired from our museum day. The bartender was great. He treated us well and we ate from the regular menu. We found the food to be delicious. We loved Mystic and but for the money would probably be better off in another facility. It is nothng like the pictures on the Inn's website.
