Where to begin?? I chose the Inn at Mystic for its lovely location and close proximity to my parents' home in Mystic, for my wedding event. The disappointment I had with this property runs the gamut from a lack of professionalism, to a complete disregard for my wedding guests and their needs - at over $220 a night per room. No one was able to check in earlier than the 3:00 pm check-in - fine, but my wedding was on a Sunday, rooms had been blocked, and for the almost $20,000 I spent for the event (not including what guests were paying for their rooms), I believe the Inn could have had the foresight to be more accommodating to guests that arrived that afternoon and simply wanted to be able to change into their attire for the wedding.
When I made room reservations I asked about earlier check-ins, and they would not budge and were totally unaccommodating. I overlooked this attitude, but this is obviously an ongoing problem for the Inn, and one in which you'd think they would determine a solution to the problem. Not this place. Seriously. They could care less. This was illustrated when they lost the best man's reservation. He became so frustrated with the front desk that I had to speak to the clerk, and she was unbelievably unflinching in her conviction that he did not have a reservation - even though he had a print out of the email confirmation!!
The Flood Tide has a great reputation for fine dining, and we tried the restaurant before we booked the event. Unfortunately, the food at the wedding was nightmarishly BAD! As the bride, I started the buffet line. We had beef tenderloin and lamb, and the tenderloin was so gray and overcooked, at first glance, I thought it was the lamb. The wild rice was tasteless, and the lovely tossed salad we asked them to prepare was totally uninspired. Such a disappointment. The groom, when asked by the chef how everything was, explained to him that the tenderloin was completely overcooked, to which the chef replied, "Is that all?" This, unfortunately, seems to be the wide-spread sentiment at the Inn, starting at the top, with the very unpleasant Jodi Dyer, whom the staff seems to fear and loathe, and therefore remain thoroughly incompetent rather than attempt to address the issues that need improvement.
