We came in off of a cruise ship with a few hours to kill. We took a cab right from the pier--with another couple for about $22-$25 to the Mystic Seaport. We asked the cab driver to return at a specific time time and he did!
While the cruise ship excursion wanted three times the price, we paid only $17.50 per person to get in. We walked around and saw many wooden ships and old buildings. The scenery was beautiful and made for some great pictures. They had a whole "seaport-town" set up for you to walk through. They also did reenactments and demonstrations. Many ships you could board. It was a great way to spend 3 hours.

This is worth visiting. A couple of hours is necessary to see what they have to offer. I was most intrigued by the Gerda III which was used to take Jewish settlers to Sweden. I would have liked more hands on and explanation for things, but it was an experience worth having anyway. Very pleasant staff. Make sure it's a nice day if you visit.

We joined to support the Museum for $54. and spent 3 hours touring the many exhitbits/shops manned by ' historically' correct workers making casts or hulls or prints etc. Worth the money and the time. The kids will enjoy the tall-ship walk ons. The lunch, however, at the Seaman Inne, next to the Museum, had small portions, slow service but the Bloody Mary had a large steamed shrimp garnish on top, That was great.

“Great if you are into history”

Mystic Seaport

my husband and i visited the seaport on a tuesday in the morning. there is a lot to see in the village. you will find yourself reading a lot of info sheets in each building. they have special talks so look at the welcome book you get when you enter. we heard about the whaling ships and the harpoon.

you can go on the steamboat for a 30 minute ride which costs about 5 bucks a person. it was fun to go on.

if you aren't into history you may find yourself bored. we like history and were there for about 3 hours.

the staff is friendly and know their stuff.

We visited in December and were pleased to find it uncrowded so we could really take our time to look around. The boat building area, blacksmith shop and whaling boat were particularly interesting.
