our table was booked for 7.30 for 7 adults and 4 children, we arrived early so went into the bar whilst waiting for our table. We were called and took our seats in a beautiful conservatory, 2 adult starters - a bruschetta and olives and cheese on toast for the children not difficult or complicated to prepare, eventually arrived - by 9pm some 1/1/2 hours after being seated, we were still waiting for mains to arrive, had we not arrived by cabs we would have up and left. We're waiting, we're waiting , we are now at almost 2 hours sat at the table when the food arrived. it was dreadful, I would have been embarrassed to bring food of this standard from the kitchen. The steaks had been sliced up and the alleged hand cut chips were soggy and swimming in grease. The Fish cooked in the bag was so overcooked the lemon in the bag had totally overtaken the flavour. At this point and after complaining the management came and apologised they were short staffed in the kitchen - why offer a full menu then? Why still take restaurant bookings? A complimentary bottle of wine and not charging for the steaks which were inedible was hardly adequate compensation. hey Mr Plume of Feathers.it costs more money to do things badly than to do them well - I wont be back and from the number of people I've told about our experience wont be visiting either.

This is the review I was most dreading arriving on this Trip Advisor page as the night in question was a very difficult one for many reasons. For the record we were short staffed, and once I knew we were short staffed I took no further bookings as I knew the two guys in our kitchen were going to struggle with service that evening. Things were a long long way from the usual standard at The Plume and none of us are happy about that. sometimes, occasionally things do not go according to plan and this was one such night. I have apologised and apologised and apologised for the long wait for food and the quality of the steak meals and reduced the cost of the bill by well in excess of £100, not charging for any of the steak meals despite much of it actually been eaten.
Catering is not an exact science and very occasionally things do go wrong and for that I am truly, genuinely sorry. The only thing I would add is that the family have eaten here many times in the past and in fact stayed at The Plume and the food "has always been lovely". I would hope that all those other occasions would also be remembered and I hope that in the future we would be given the opportunity to prove that what you have recently experienced is not, in any way, typical of what we do here at The Plume, thankfully many many other reviews substantiate this. Please extend one final apology to yourself and your family from all at The Plume.
