We were going to stay in Keswick to explore the lakes, but we decided to make the extra 20 mile trip to Littlebeck Warren due to its good reviews on here and we were glad we did.We stayed in the Glass room for two nights, which is the smallest room they have. That wasn't an issue as it was big enough, well decorated, had a good self contained shower and a really comfortable and large double bed. The room was spotlessly clean, as was the rest of building. The only issue we had with the room was that it didn't have a wardrobe.Breakfasts were outstanding. Large and varied, as well as full English, haddock and salmon were also available.Owner Sue prepares the breakfasts and it's obvious she puts a lot of effort into getting it right. Other staff were similarly cheerful and helpful. We had an evening meal there, £21 for three courses, and it was excellent. As good, if not better, than the meal we had at Zeffirelli's in Ambleside the previous night.

I tagged along on my hubby's business trip to the West Lakes area and when looking for somewhere within his budget to stay, Littlebeck Warren's exceptional reviews stood out. He booked the day before using an online booking agency and requested a super-king room. Whitehaven is approximately ten minutes drive away, Cockermouth a little further.

Our late arrival (9.30pm) didn't faze Sue, the owner. She quickly showed us around the bar, breakfast room and sun lounge. In the bar Sue was equally happy to serve us or for us to help ourselves and note down what we had, she let us know breakfast arrangements (if you want her breakfast specials she asks that you let her know the night before), and took us to our allocated room; The Copper Room. The B&B is located on a quiet residential road and there is parking in front for 4 or 5 cars.

The Copper Room itself is very large and can be a twin or super-king room. Robes are provided and slippers are available too if required. There is a wall-mounted TV with DVD and ipod dock. DVDs can be borrowed from Sue's stock in the sun lounge. Tea and coffee making facilities are provided in the room. The room was well heated with a radiator we could control with a thermostatic valve. The furniture and soft furnishings were high-quality and the room had a luxurious feel to it.

The bathroom consisted of toilet and basin, the large double-ended copper bathtub where you can have a shoulders-deep bath (yes, it is big enough for two) and a huge double shower area. Toiletries of every kind are supplied in case you have forgotted anything and there was no lack of hot water during our stay. The bed was large and comfortable and we had no issues with noise from other guests, outside etc.; a really peaceful nights sleep.

Breakfast consisted of various cereal options, a fresh fruit platter (strawberries, kiwi, pineapple, melon, grapes etc), pastries, bread, toast etc. Freshly squeezed orange juice, various fruit or herb teas, breakfast tea and coffee. English breakfast offered the usual choices, plus eggs cooked to your preference, cumberland sausage, black and white pudding, mushrooms, baked beans etc. all freshly made to order and nicely presented. Pre-orderable breakfast specials included smoked salmon with scrambled eggs, kippers, various omelettes etc. My husband made the error of piercing one of his breakfast tomatoes and squirting juice on his clean shirt - Sue offered immediately to launder and dry if for him if needed.

On check-out after our all-too-brief stay Sue provided us with a goodie bag containing sweets and a bottle of water each for our journey.

Because Littlebeck Warren has only five rooms Sue is able to offer a very personal and exceptional level of service. The bedroom and the public areas were very clean and tidy and are furnished to a high standard. Sue also now has a chef and is able to offer evening meals by arrangement although we had already eaten before check in, I have no doubt these will be of the same high-quality as everything else.

I know my husband will definitely use Littlebeck Warren again if he travels to the area and he took a couple of leaflets to give to his colleagues who also visit the West Lakes area on business. For around £10 more than a stay in a Premier Inn in the area (if you add in breakast charge) we felt like we'd had a luxury stay in a very good hotel.

Room Tip: The 'super-king' rooms seem to have zip-together singles so can be either twin or double bed...

We had two nights in the fabulous wooden room at Littlebeck Warren and loved every minute. Sue is a wonderful host and all the staff were smiley and friendly and looked after us so well. The room itself was very comfy and beautifully-decorated. Breakfast was superb! All the little extras were really appreciated, including our easter eggs! No hesitation in recommending this lovely B&B to everyone.

Just returned from short trip to Distington and a beautiful B&b that is Littlebeck Warren. Situated just out of Distington and a couple of miles from Whitehaven we chose this for a quiet, relaxing break but, although the reviews on Trip were very promising, we did have reservations and so went with an open mind but how right we found the reviews were.
After a long day we got there to be warmly welcomed by Sue who took us on a tour round the beautiful property and then to our room and what a surprise lay in store. The room was very clean, superbly decorated, all the usual tea and coffee, tv, toiletries but the bathroom was so stunning and unexpected in a small B&B (there are only 5 rooms) and one that any large hotel would envy.
We also decided to eat there as we couldn't be bothered to try and find somewhere, although Sue was only too happy to point us in the direction of one or two good eateries, and the surprises continued. The menu was a good selection and very well priced, although as the wife said we should wait to see how good it was as there must be a catch- there wasn't. The food was of extremely good quality and equal to many restaurants we have dined in and for much less money, there is also a small bar on site which is operated as an honesty bar, just take the drinks and write down what you've taken pay as you go or pay later.
There has to be a catch here and it must be breakfast, there wasn't. Again the breakfast was as good as any hotel, cereals, fruit, full English,a few daily specials and as much tea and toast as you wanted, although after the full breakfast you didn't have room for much toast, no scrimping on quality or quantity and the perfect start to the day.
Sue is only too pleased to help in planning the day and seems to be very well educated on the local area and is a pleasure to talk to. A thoroughly enjoyable couple of days and a real treat to have found a true gem of a B&B

Room Tip: There is no tip necessary the rooms we saw were of equally superb standard

After trying many places in the area a colleague eventually found this delightful guest house. I stayed this week and cannot recommend it highly enough. From arrival to departure nothing was to much trouble. The bedroom and bathroom were finished and furnished to the very highest standards. Sue had arranged an evening meal for us and that and the breakfast were excellent the food was top quality and beautifully prepared.

Confusion via a third party meant I was booked for the wrong evening and they were unable to accommodate me on my chosen. Response and action from Sue was brilliant. she contacted the third party sorted out the cancellation and did not charge anything for the room, although she would have been perfectly entitled to do so. Service and attitude deserves recognition and means I'll take care and make sure I book the correct date when next in the area.

I can not speak highly enough of Littlebeck Warren and its owner Sue. I have spent four weeks as a guest here while on business, and it is the nearest to home you could wish for. It is more than just the first class furnishings and fittings, it is more than the lovely food, for me it is the atmosphere and the genuine welcome which makes the difference. Lavish bathrooms and cosy beds reflect the attention to detail, and Sue is always on hand with a smile and a friendly word. Definitely highly recommended.
