“Warm welcoming pub”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2014

Had loads of meals here with the family, very homely style food at a sensible price .
Normally quite busy but they will do their best to squeeze you in!

“Great village local”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2014

Really nice pub at the heart of the village where we've been on a number of occasions, even if requiring bit of a detour. Pleasant interior and warm welcome on arrival. In our experience always a number of real ales - 5 today - and good range of food on both a menu card and board. Food is good without perhaps being exceptional and not bad value. Today we took to the garden which is also a pleasant venue, though one or two of the parasols could do with attention. En route to the garden one goes through a conservatory style area which is also a pleasant environment in which to eat, though today more suitable to the growing of citrus fruit. Overall, really nice place.

“5* - Fantastic Food!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2014

Just a quick message to say that I visited you with my other half last Saturday evening and what an absolutely fantastic experience we had. Although you were all up to your eyes with being so busy and despite the fact that we had not booked, we were still found an outside table in the beer garden with a lovely view, received the best customer service and enjoyed the most delicious food, and I can't wait to visit again soon. Thanks again. x

“expected better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2014

Firstly I am surprised that our opinion of this pub is so different from all the good reviews, I would have gone for 2 star but feel everyone deserves the benefit of the doubt. unfortunately the night we chose had a plague of Morris Dancers turn up which in my view must be like Marmite......... you either love them or, well you know the rest. Unfortunately the laughter and busy jovial atmosphere of this popular country pub was drowned out by the awful din of Morris dancing on the outside and Pet shop Boys on the inside. we clearly upset one older Morris dancing lady by asking where the money she was collecting would be going, when she said us poor Morris dancers and our expenses (most of which was being spent at the bar) we exercised our right to say no, we would prefer a real charity she was clearly not happy!! Anyway putting the Morris dancing to one side as the pub cannot be blamed for that, the food and service at best could be described as average. Starters: the calamari was excellent, whitebait good, garlic mushrooms were nothing more than microwaved mushrooms swimming in garlic butter, our table and at least two others then waited an hour and 10 minutes ish for our mains. the vegetable lasagne was poor, it was watery with 3 or 4 large chunks of veg and a watery sauce 3/10, the pulled pork burger was excellent 9/10, the scampi was good, although you can't really get that wrong 7/10 and the Exmoor steak and ale pie average as it was tasteless with no real flavour or meatiness about it, although there was plenty of steak in it 6/10. The chips were few and far between thankfully as they were dried up and hard. The waitress worked hard and did keep apologising for the wait and that we would be served soon, sadly we were hungry and chose to continue to wait, should have called it a day after 45 mins paid for starters and left early to find something better. Northgate Inn, Stags Head at Filleigh or Exeter Inn

Disappointed to receive this unusual review for us. But we appreciate all points of view, especially when time taking to go home and write this review. We work very hard on a daily basis to give everyone a special experience when visiting The Bell and on that night with a very busy pub, Morris Dancers singing and performing and fantastic reviews from the other groups that evening of fantastic food, this was quite a shock. But we will strive even harder to give everyone a great experience. But we would much rather be told on the evening than to have to read it on the internet.

“great find”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2014 via mobile

Recently went to the bell after visiting their website. The food was excellent not gourmet just good freshly cooked pub grub and excellent puddings. Great value and the staff are very helpful and friendly. Lovely conservatory and garden. An excellent experience, we will be visiting again. I would thoroughly recommend this inn.
