“Last resort before White Dessert”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2013

Visited for a night in November just before the chill sets in.
Very clean resort, right before the wilderness of the Rann of Kutch, in the middle of nowhere.
Very good quality basic local food, served in the dining hall at fixed timings.
The basic bhungas are nice, the upscale Darbari bhungas are just superb.
Manager Mr. Hardik always available on mobile was very cooperative.
The other staff as well as the front desk very helpful.
After dinner the local music & singers were also very entertaining.
Totally a non polluted environment.

Room Tip: In winters Basic bhungas are very apt but if you wish to spend more the the Darbari bhungas are exqu...

We stayed here for a night and it was blissful! We arrived around after lunch time and yet managed to scoop some bellyful! The manager seemed really helpful. We had rented our own vehicle so the driver was also given a place to sleep and food, ALL INCLUSIVE in the price!!! We took off to White Desert after a little snooze. Upon return, as you'd expect in desert, shortage of hot water was apparent for a quick evening shower. Followed by local folk music and then dinner. Dinner is upto the mark, nothing that extravagant, but it still pleased us. And then good night's sleep! Again, hot water problems in the morning but they provided us with a few buckets of them, so sorted. Breakfast was all nice again! Definitely recommended! :-)

Room Tip: If travelling around Oct-Nov time, no point in getting A/c Bhungas (rooms) as it'll be cold enou...

A beautiful, convenient n comcortable place to stay in comparison to any other stay inns in kutch. Spent couple of days in a peaceful n moderate enviroment. The wow factor is the beauty of it itself 'The Resort'.
All the staff members were very polite, genuine and helpful. I would personally give my appreciation to the Manager, Mr.Sangaliya who has looked after our needs so well.
Overall maintenance standard is brilliant n highly appreciatable.
Thanx for ur unforgettable hospitaliity.
Good Luck. :)

Conveniently located just outside the Greater Rann of Kutch, This your best option to explore one of the natural wonders by day and night. Apt for a weekend, it offers friendly hospitality and much needed basic amenities at one of the harshest places in westernmost India. The traditional a/c & non-a/c Kutchi Bhungas (mud huts) make for comfortable accommodation & the delicious authentic Gujarati vegetarian home-cooked meals will ensure your taste-buds are satiated. Managed by the Gram Panchayat of Dhordo village, it provides for sustainable local area development. The ever so helpful & eager staff will gladly assist you visit the Rann of Kutch or even arrange for a camel safari best experienced at sunset. Step out after sunset in the courtyard and enjoy live cultural folk music played on traditional instruments.

Room Tip: ideally opt for an a/c room

Coming to this hotel i had some expectations, considering the steep price charged and boy, was i disappointed. Some hotels lack in a few amenities, but usually make up for it, but this one extraordinary- extraordinarily bad in every aspect you could think of - rude and arrogant manager, semi cooked vegetables as meals with cold chappati, huts without ceiling fans in the middle of the deserts( trust its way hotter than you can think) and to top it off - child labour - ironically in a government run place.

The rooms were well decorated but it was only superficial- dilapidated bathrooms (with creepy crawlies - i spy with my little eye one lizard! ) and tiny huts -definalty not for 2 extra mattresses which they forced into the room also at exorbitant charges.

The Manager ended up cooking Maagi for guests as only food to be served according to mythical "menu" was cold oily puri with sabji for BREAKFAST. In the midst of lad of Amul, milk was available only on several requests, not to be served to all the guests.

Summary: This place is to be avoided AT ALL costs - the only thing going for it is its location but the other resorts are not too far away and you are certain to get better treatment at the hands of a private hotel. Staying at Bhuj is also a good idea.

Room Tip: Dont come here!

We spent a long weekend (2 nights) at the resort and the experience was wonderful. Everything about the place - rooms, food, evening entertainment and service - was par excellence. The people in the resort were very helpful, especially Mr. Malik and Shahid. The place was clean and well-maintained. Overall it was unique and memorable.

Room Tip: Although the Durbari bhunga is excellent, the AC is not effective as the room is very large; if only...

We had a very nice stay at the Gateway to Rann Resort. Malik (the manager) does an excellent job of catering to your needs and making you comfortable at the resort. And his staff did a great job. He was responsive to all our needs and really made our stay at the GRR very pleasant. Another highlight is the food. We got excellent Gujarati/Kutchi food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner (all included in the price of the room, which was good value). And our room was very nice. Considering that we were staying in a mud hut, it was pretty clean and tidy, with a nice new bathroom and decent hot water. And overall, the GRR was very peaceful and quiet.
