My husband and I went to the Country Buffet in Manchester, Connecticut recently. We had been to this location before but not for quite a while. The first thing we noticed was a change in the meal price -- the price no longer is inclusive of beverages with your meal. You have to pay extra to drink coffee and/or soft drink, which adds about $2. So at the cashier station, the meal price is listed and then in small print it says "does not include beverages" which we thought was very sneaky. A waitress then comes to your table to verify you have purchased a beverage and signs the receipt. Then we noticed that the food stations contained less meat. The offerings were mostly high carb choices (pasta, bread, reconstituted mashed potatoes). The fresh fruit bowl has been replaced by a basket of plastic fruit as a decoration! I understand that people are cutting back because of the economy but this was pretty sad. For almost $20, we feel that the value for the quality and choice of food was very, very low. Not only would we not recommend this restaurant, we will not return to this location or to any of the Country Buffets in the chain. (Message to Country Buffet -- I think most people want value for their money. Don't remove the choices you offered in the past to sucker customers in -- because we won't be back, we will tell their friends not to come back, and your chain will be out of business!)
