“Hidden gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2014

An impromptu visit to Madison revealed this culinary treasure! This french cafe has an intimate setting with a fantastic menu that features favorites like escargot and foi gras. The wine list was excellent as well. Highly recommend getting lost and finding yourself at Bar Bouchee!

“My happy place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2014

My husband and I love this restaurant. We're so fortunate to have this wonderful little place in our town! I've enjoyed everything I've eaten there, but I especially love their fish entrees and their fois gras burger. The tables are close together, but the atmosphere is very relaxing and the entire staff is friendly. The quality of the food is excellent, and ranges from typical bistro food to gourmet entrees. In the summer you can dine out on the patio. Reservations are a must, but we've called at 5:30 to reserve a 6 pm spot a few times and were able to get in. Very nice wine list, and great their specialty drinks too--love their Kaffir lime martini. We usually go without the kids, but we took them there for my birthday and they loved it (14 & 17 years old).

“France in Madison”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2014

Terrific bar/bistro in a converted house just off route 1. Every dish we had was a first-in-class. Standouts included a boldly flavored zucchini gazpacho, the best mussel broth my wife had ever tasted, Stonington scallops on a mushroom ragout, a galette of duck confit. Even the side of frites to go with the mussels was extraordinary. The space is small but stylish, with seating on a well-padded high bench and facing stools along one wall. If you don't come expecting white tablecloths and crystal you'll leave very happy. Prices quite reasonable for the quality.

“A gem is found....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2014

After a great day touring the Mystic area, we were driving back down I95 south and hit heavy traffic so we decided to get off and find a place for dinner. Thanks to Trip Advisor reviews, we selected Bar Bouchee..... and we were not disappointed. In fact, this little gem is worth driving back to again.

Being used to great food in NYC and around Fairfield County, we have high expectations. The food here is top notch....fresh ingredients prepared in creative and flavorful ways were delicious. The risotto and trout dishes were both outstanding.

Since we did not have reaervations (small but comfortable indoor seating area), we sat at an outdoor table. The only detraction from our experience was the noise from an idling truck engine from the property next door. The service was friendly and not rushed. We would definitely go back.

“Super-dependable extra-high quality”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2014

We live in town, and have been to Bar Bouchee 4-5 times over the past couple of years. The down side of being close is that the menu doesn't change much at all. That's the only downside. What they do have on the menu is so well prepared that it's irrelevant. The wine list small but well chosen. It really is as good as any restaurant in the state, so have no fears coming here. It's small, so expect tightly packed tables, but we're used to that, and we think it's fine. Really, unless you plan on having an argument with your dinner partner, it's irrelevant.

The price is up there, but compared to other restaurants in this quality range, it's very fair, almost even underpriced. It's a fail-safe, have no fear, upper-end restaurant. Always excellent, always a great time, never any regrets. If you're having trouble choosing from the menu, just have the truffle burger thing at the bottom; might well be the best hamburger on the East Coast.
