“Great park with nice beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2011

Visited July 10th 2011. A well-kept and convenient state park with plenty of parking for the beach. Get here before 9 am though, because the spaces on the limited amount of sand fill up quick. The beach and water are pretty rocky but that's to be expected at the sound. Tip- visit Pop's concession stand on the western most part of the beach for a New-England style footlong hotdog for $3.25. Overall a pleasant experience- more room than L.I. Beaches but this isn't the Caribbean.

“Nice park by the beach. But I did not enjoy the camping so much.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2011

Beautiful place. We were in time for the kite festival, and that was amazing.

But the camp site was just open flat ground and all the sites were really close to each other. Absolutely no privacy and your sleep quality depends on your neighbor. I have seen way better camp site.

“The campground has very nice level grass...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2010 via mobile

The campground has very nice level grass sites. Bring a bike. It's flat and the kids will love it. This park has it all. Camping, beach, walking and biking trails, camp store, food concession, clean bathrooms with showers. Beautiful sunsets too! No waves though since it's in Long Island Sound. Perfect place to bring your toddler for a first time beach visit. The beach has fine sand near the dunes but is a bit rougher near the water. In the water the bottom is fine sand if you go out about 10 feet. Not too deep either.

“Love this Beach!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2010

This has to be one of the best beaches on the Sound! The water is clean & warm. The sand is soft, so the kids can make good sand sculptures. The atmosphere is very laid back. As a single or retired person you can sit and enjoy the sun and the surf w/out much noise. It's also great for families, there were many kids including my own, yet the beach was still very relaxing. If I have to write any negatives the only thing that comes to mind, is at the shore there are a lot of rocks and shells, so I would recommend water shoes for those with sensitive feet, other than that come enjoy the waves.

“Parts of the park are nice, but the beach...yuck”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2009

Yeah, this is a nice park, but if you are going here for the beach, drive a few extra miles to Rocky Neck instead. This beach is huge flat and wide by New England standards but it's very trash--lots of sticks, debris, etc. It does not look like it is very well maintained at all.
