“A very nice experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2013

We spent 2 nights in Nandera Reta. The place is very beautiful and quiet. The hosts are friendly and could explain you many things about the nature. The home-made meals are very good! I am a vegetarian and the hosts cooked for me fine meals without meat or fish. The room was confortable and there is a common room with a chimney when it is cold. We did 2 excursions, the second one on a boat is a good experience, we saw a lot of wild animals and the landscape is unique. The price is expensive, but if you can you should go there. Thank you!

We spent a night with my family on this beautiful Posada in 2004. The rooms are clean, the people treat you as you were family, do not look further, if you plan to visit the Estero del Ibera, this is THE place to stay.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2013

On November last, Bobbie, Jim and I after a night trip from Buenos Aires, arrived in the early morning into Mercedes. Our driver with his 4x4 van was waiting for us to take us to Carlos Pellegrini, a village on the shores of the Ibera Lagoon, its marshes and surrounding wetlands. For our stay we choosed the "Nande Reta Lodge", one of the 3 top boarding Lodges found at the place. We found the rooms comfortable, cool for the night's rest and sleep. Food was abundant and varied. With our main quest being Birding and Nature watching we would go out by sunrise returning by midmorning, have breakfast and then go out again. On a couple of times we went out to the Lagoon using a motorboat visiting different areas in order to see different species of birds and wildlife. Among the large number of animal species seen, some were remarkable being such the Capybara, Sproket Deer, Spotted Caiman and lots of birds, with the most curious being the White-headed Marsh Tyrant, Southern Screamer and the Yellow-rumped Marshbird. The area boasts over 300 different bird species, quite a number! While visiting Carlos Pellegrini's surroundings, on the higher land we again saw deer and the typical bird to the place the "Strange-tailed Tyrant". During one of our outings, on a sandy road we were greeted by a beautiful male Yellow Cardinal while on a fencewire a gorgeous White-browed Blackbird was balancing holding against the wind. We saw several bunches of Seedeaters flying around with the Marsh Seedeater as the most outstanding one. Very abundant Giant Wood Rails would sneak around and all over the marshlands being often overflown by Long-winged Harriers. On the last day of our stay, after having had lunch at our Nande Reta Lodge, during the "siesta" time in the Lodge's park some tapping caught our attention. We discovered in a close by tree a couple of White-barred Piculets feeding their chicks while hammering at the tree's trunk seeking food! What a good stay we had. Our expectations were highly fulfilled!
Sergio Corbet.

Room Tip: Rooms looking to the south in the higher floor of the main building are nice to sleep in.

THe colony of Carlos Pellegrini is absolutely charming, if hard to get to! THe little village itself was one of the main attractions and the lodge itself is charming and original with a lovely pool to sit back and watch the birds and drink gin and tonic. The owner is helpful. The food is a little sparse, but fine. The wildlife watching is good, although not stupendous, and some guides are more enthusiastic than others. But overall this was one of my highlight spots in Argentina- bucolic charm, especially when the gauchos rode into town for their annual fiesta.

This hotel is ranch style with lots of wood finishes and open fires with comfortable seats and sofas. The rooms were clean and a good size with good beds, and a luggage rack. The bathroom had a bathtub with a shower over it. The bath should not be used but there was no sign to indicate this and I accidentally flooded the dining room when the water did not drain away properly. The staff quickly mopped the water up. The shower was OK but water pressure was poor when we were there.

The grounds are lovely and there is a pool for guest use.

The food served was good – filling and tasty. Recommended for a stay to visit the wetlands.
