We had our wedding at the Tollgate in November and were so very pleased. The staff was warm and gracious. The food was fabulous (several of our guests remarked on how good the food was also). We stayed in a suite which was large but cozy with a lovely fireplace. I would highly recommend the Tollgate and look forward to returning there for dinner some time in the future.

We too were duped by 2 websites. First, I saw the Tollgate Hill Inn mention on the About website under the New England travel area. They called it "elegant accomodations", so I looked at their website and the rooms looks absolutely wonderful. Based on this info we booked 6 days in one of their suites for a romantic New England trip. What a disappointment!! It looked vaguely like the website photos but not anywhere near as nice. The photos are very deceptive. While this is kind of a quaint, but very rustic inn, it is VERY FAR from elegant. I agree with another review that the bathrooms aren't much and a few things didn't work right. If we weren't expecting luxury, we may have enjoyed ourselves, but I still think it was overpriced ($195). We moved to a theme room at The Litchfield Inn which was luxury, and with our AAA discount it was only $205.

If you're looking for a stay at the Ritz then you best stay in the big cities. But, if you're looking for a stay in a country inn then this may be the place.

We stayed at the Tollgate Hill Inn at the end of Sept. for two days while attending a wedding on the grounds. Our room was in the main building and for the price (~$150) we found it very decent. I did look in one room located the over the pub and it looked good, too.

Talked to about 3 other guests and they all said their rooms were fine and no negative comments were made during the entire weekend.

After reading the negative reviews from two other posters I was concerned. Fortunately our experience was very pleasant. From check in to check out all went well.

I found the Inn on the web and thought the rooms looked fabulous on the net. We booked a large suite with fireplace in the main building for valantines day weekend. What a disappointment the room turned out to be. It was musty, with cheap carpet and a sagging/stained couch. The bathroom must have come from a $50/night motel. The only redeeming point of the trip was dinner at the Inn, which was charming, particularly the bar downstairs. The wide-anlge pics on the website are a farce. We checked out after just 1 night (paid for 2 nights) and returned home. I am now quite leery about booking lodging based purely on appearance on websites.
