“Great time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2012

We spent two nights at this pub, there was a good choice of food and the accommodation was nice and comfortable. Our room was above the bar and to be honest we could hear people talking downstairs, but it wasnt a problem to us as we are night owls and were the last people to go to bed. Make sure you dont turn the radiators on in the room even when cold, as it did get a bit too hot in the room, but this was our mistake and made sure we didnt repeat the mistake on the 2nd night. The menu was extensive and to a very good standard, wasn't disappointed with anything we ordered. The staff were very friendly and were very attentive. All in all this was great value, great food and a great find, I for one would recommend it without reservation.

I stumbled across this little pub by accident while visiting my parents in the countryside. From the moment we walked in the door, we were met with such an abundance of hospitality. They were so friendly and welcoming, The food was absolutely incredible, we ordered the steak and ale pie, and the fish and chips. Both were delightful. I would recommend this pub to anyone who is in the area, definately the best we've been to while staying in England. Staff were ever so friendly and recommended some lovely places to vist during our stay.

It is a great little B&B located in a small town outside of Canterbury. The rooms are a great size, and the shower is just AWESOME!!!

Good value for money. Did not have dinner here, but the breakfasts are just wonderful, and the people are just lovely and welcoming.

Can be a bit noisy with music from the restaurant filtering through the floor, but as long as you are not in a rush to sleep it is ok.

Beds are wonderfully comfortable.

Only negative is that wifi is not particularly good, and very bad coverage on phone so not able to skype or use free txting applications like viber.

We had the most wonderful stay at the Duke William and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone (in fact we already have). Arriving in the evening, the place was beautifully lit from the outside, illuminating the olive trees and log piles, and once inside we were welcomed by very friendly staff and shown our room. The room was lovely, perfectly clean with everything you could need, and so cosy. Nice large bathroom with power shower and room to move around. Contemporary decor, no horrible frills or vile pictures. The food is fantastic, couldn't fault anything, with locally sourced meat, locally grown vegetables, and locally baked bread. And the staff were all wonderful without exception, extremely attentive, helpful and friendly. We had the most wonderful two nights here and were made to feel so welcome we didn't want to leave, and if/when we visit Canterbury again we will be very disappointed if we don't get to stay here again.

My wife and I needed a night away and the Duke William @ Ickham hit the spot. Upon arrival we were greeted by a very welcoming lady who kindly offered us lunch even though we were 15 minutes late. Check in was quick and simple and the rooms were very cosy and clean. The sizzling prawns and the chicken, bacon and avocado salad were both delicious, followed up by the beef and ale pie and venison were equally lovely and too finish off we shared the fantastic chocolate fondant.

Stayed here for one night (in room 3) and got hardly any sleep (both of us)because of the a continual droning noise that could not even be cut out by having the tv on! It came from outside behind the wall that the headboards are up against. This was following only having two towels, one mug, one glass and one breakfast teabag, this is a TWIN room!! Lack of lighting in the room and bathroom together with the shower pressure completely dying while soaped and washing hair. The best thing about the place is the breakfast although this was accompanied by cups that were dirty, the guy doing the breakfast was very pleasant. I did actually complain about all the things and he contacted someone (assuming this was the pub manager) to say that I was not prepared to pay the whole bill due to the HUGE lack of sleep and the other problems encountered, this was met with an emphatic NO! I think this young lady needs to take a course in customer services, are they so busy that they can afford to turn down custom? I think not. Now I know why we were able to book this at such short notice, people have clearly come across the same problems and are not coming back for a second stay. There were other customers at breakfast who had also had some problems with showers etc, it wasn't just our room that was a problem it would seem. I would say that I have never come across such a bad attitude when visiting/staying somewhere. There wasn't even an apology forthcoming. I am not one to complain and I always say, you get what you pay for. This is an exception to my rule. I've paid less to stay places and been met with a much nicer place to sleep and facilities and people who have a nice pleasant demeanour.

Room Tip: Don't bother

We recently stayed at the Duke of Ickham for four nights and had a splendid stay made all the better for Luca and his hospitality he was wonderful and his breakfast was something to write about we are from the North but the black pudding in the South is definately something to write about. It was a little noisy but no more than we expected it is a pub after all and not a hotel. the staff were very pleasant Sarah greeted us on arrival and showed us to our room and was very helpful. the staff could not do enough with regards to extra tea bags milk coffee etc... you only had to ask. I will definately be staying there again. We were looking for property in the area and managed to find one and we will definately be back for their sunday roast.once we move down there, It was splendid atmosphere and the locals were great would definately recommend thanks again to all the staff and a special thank you to Lucas you are a credit to the Duke keep up the good work.
