“Not The Service That Once Was”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2013

We ate in the bar/lounge area and there were only four patrons in this area. A very loud woman, then a very loud man who came in after us who ate up at the bar and couple in a booth. Where all of the noise came from was the loud woman and man who were friends with all of the back room waitresses who forget that they were at work and not at a family gathering. We were lucky to be waited on. The bartender was just as loud and obnoxious as the waitresses. And was so involved with the other staff that he messed up one of our drinks.

This was not our first time in the First and Last in Hartford, CT. We have been coming in here for over 20 years and the staff becomes more unprofessional with each year. When John was in charge the restaurant flowed like a charm. We also know that this is a neighbor establishment with a close knit following, and there is nothing wrong with that. But when it gets out of hand with noise someone should be in charge to consider other patrons.

The waitresses slice the best bread in the South End of Hartford that is served to the diners but do not cover the bread with a cloth for sanitary purposes. Keep in mind that the waitresses not only serve the food but also handle the cash and credit cards and then slice your bread.

The food was not disappointing but as good as usual. But by the time you withstand the entire ruckus going on, you cannot enjoy your meal. They should keep in mind that there is lots of competition out there and they should stay on the top of their game.

“One of my favorite restaurants to visit in Hartford!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2013

Atmosphere is top notch and the food is as well. Pizza is fantastic and the rest of the menu is on par. Last visit I had the pasta Cioppino -Shrimp, scallops, mussels, clams, calamari, sautéed
with garlic, simmered in Marinara sauceover linguine...very good. My daughter had spaghetti and meatballs and loved them. Prices were reasonable ..,Service was just OK.

“Used to be much better..”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2013

I think folks will always go to and love First and Last Tavern as it is an icon in the city of Hartford. I remember my Dad taking me there for a #13 when I was a child. I did visit last evening and it prompts me to write this review as the last few times I've been there... well it's just not the same anymore.. The food is great and the bread is fantastic but it's way over priced and the value is just not there. $26 for a bottle of Alice White... really? Just remember that when you go....

“Brick Oven Pizza”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2013

Eh... It's brick oven pizza. No biggie. Good? Yes, but not brilliant. It was probably a huge hit when brick oven pizza was first getting it's legs back in the 90's but now it's not such a big idea.
The restaurant is a little tight but it's cozy. I would have no problem eating here again.
