Our last visit was as the many that preceded it!
The offerings are simple and well prepared, the reason for the 4 stars is the lack of creativity from the kitchen( and there is no way to give three and a half stars) which I expect from a restaurant in this price bracket!
The service has always been consistently excellent both in the more romantic styled dining room(s) as well as the bar!
The bar is well stocked, with a comfortable, amiable atmosphere catering to typically, well heeled customers, a substantial number of regulars whom do nothing to diminish the atmosphere and in fact enhance it!
To sum this up simply, the place won't disappoint any diner in search of a quality meal coupled with top notch service, Continental style, which is not for someone in a rush! My creativity comment is subjective, obviously!

“Bad choice!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2013 via mobile

Given the location, there are other restaurants that are far superior to Carbone's. The food was fair, nothing to rave about. The service was slow with large gaps between appetizers, main course and dessert. The servers were not as attentive as one would expect given their self-billing as a top restaurant. The prices were not in line with the quality (lack of) or quantity of food. The atmosphere was dark and too cold for comfort.

“A meal to remember”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2013

We went to Carbone's for my birthday because we had read such good reviews. The reviews were right on the mark. First of all the ambiance of the restaurant was wonderful--we felt like we were some place on vacation, and the servers took such great care of us. We were lacking for nothing! The food was exceptional! I had the cod, and my husband had the stuffed veal, and really there are no words to describe how delicious it was. We will definately be back-they made our night so very special.

“Pasta, chicken dishes, and caesar salad are great; steak is not; service is perfunctory, not friendly”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2013

Our company had its holiday dinner for 20 people in a private room here in December 2012.

Three food options were available to guests: pasta, steak, chicken. Uniformly those who ordered pasta and chicken were pleasantly surprised. And uniformly those who ordered steak were sorely disappointed; most did not eat more than a few bites of the solid three-inch block of meat on their plate. (I don't understand why people ordered steak at an established Italian restaurant anyway, but....) Ours was a fixed price event, but looking at dinner menu, everything seems a few dollars overpriced. This restaurant seems to view itself as classier than it actually is.

They were very nice about accommodating an additional person at the last minute. During the event, servers were not friendly, but professional. Servers did not interact with guests, even when guests were friendly toward them; but they were just doing their job and no one minded much. At the end of the gathering, three female servers were huddled around the door staring at all of us and whispering among themselves, seemingly wishing we would hurry up and leave, so they could clean up and go home. Turned out it was not our imagination because, as we passed by them on our way out, we heard them audibly exchanging comments to that effect. That was the only negative about the service - not a great attitude.

The restaurant is old and has seen better days, but serviceable for a mid-level dinner. Don't expect anything fancy or polished. This is old school and they seem to be proud of that. Parking is a problem; this is not a good neighborhood and parking in the restaurant lot is quite limited. An "attendant" was on duty when we were there; it was unclear what exactly his job was - he was not a valet and was no help other than to tell us the dozen or so spots in the restaurant lot were full (no kidding - we have eyes) and that we should park on the street or in a more remote, unlit lot across the street. That was uncomfortable for many of us, especially older couples for whom walking on dark, uneven sidewalks is a challenge, and the unescorted women who are ill-advised to roam that bad area alone at all.

Nothing special; okay for a business dinner; tired venue and service; parking is a hassle on a busy night; food is probably a little overpriced.

“Group greatness”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2013 via mobile

Had a group meeting at Carbone's and they were very accommodating as our count was off (under by about 10) and several people arrived late. They set up extra tables and the service was still great. There is never a doubt that the food would be excellent but this was the first time I ever had a buffet set up and each selection was hot, fresh and tasty. I always think of Carbone's for high end dinners but now I know they can handle group affairs with the same class and efficiency.
