“REALLY slow service...decent food”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2011

We were here about 12:30 on a Saturday and more than half the tables were empty. We were seated right away and had our orders placed quickly. There were 6 of us, 3 adults and 3 children under 7.
45 minutes later, we still hadn't gotten our appetizer. We tried catching the waitress's eye to get our drinks refilled...no luck. My husband finally walked over and said that we'd like to pay for our drinks and then we were leaving. She frantically told us that our food was coming up. There was no apology.
10 minutes later our appetizer (nachos, so not a hard thing to throw together) were on the table. Cold. The cheese wouldn't pull apart. And they weren't very good.
Less than a minute later, we all had our food which was decent. My eldest wouldn't eat his chicken fingers because he said it was too much batter and greasy but he's pretty picky. My mom said her sausage and spinach soup (yes, it took 50 minutes to get her bowl of soup) was good. None of us had entrees....it was a salad and sandwiches.
So the food is ok. The ambiance is great and the parking is convenient for a downtown location. But we'd never be back. I guess they are lucky we were just visiting and aren't locals who could actually hurt business.

“Great Family Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2011

The food was amazing. The Mac N' Cheese was surprisingly delicious and the Burgers are to die for. The atmosphere is friendly as well as the service. Being that it is a fire fighter theme the kids will love sparky the theme. Happy hour was the time to go! Half off appatizers and the wheel of drink specials makes it fulfilling and fun. The waitress staff was most impressive. Especially our waitress with the firery red hair. Easy Free parking out back. Not much else I could say. I will definitely be back when waiting for my next wait before the basketball game :)

“Great Decor and Grub”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2010

We wanted good food before the hockey game at the XL Center. Plenty of parking behind the restaurant. Was confused when we walked into a professional building with a restaurant in it. Great specials. Friendly service. The food was very good. We had a pizza, steak sandwich, and a side of Mac and Cheese as an appetizer. We would reccomend Hook and Ladder to anyone, especially with a young family. The children were given plastic firefighter hats. Cute touch.

“This restaurant's on fire!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 4, 2010

One of the best restaurants for casual dining in Hartford. Located near downtown Hartford, with plenty of free parking in the back, this restaurant is an ideal site for families and friends to dine. The restaurant is located next door to a Fire House, and the owner, I believe is an ex-fireman, so the restaurant's decor reflects this in a tasteful--antiquey manner. The wait staff is great. We are a family of four, with two kids and we've gotten to become regulars. The food is delicious and reasonably priced. All meals begin with complementary fresh, warm cornbread. We have ordered buffalo chicken wings, chicken pot pie, steak with Mac & Cheese, Seafood Scampi, etc, and never had a bad meal. Our son loves their chocolate cake for dessert. You've always heard that firemen can cook and boy, this restaurant is on fire!! Good home-cooking, with a flair!
