Poor people will be happy to know that they are invited too. Maybe it is the outdated upholstery, the drab lighting or the meticulous craftiness of putting this on display, but something about it left me feeling confused.

“History in my backyard”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2012

First time to this house and I was glad I finally made it. When you go they have tours of about 10 people they take through the house every half hour or so depending on the day. While you wait there is a little museum of sorts to look at that has some fun facts, history.. The house seemed very dark but I so enjoyed the tour. We didn't opt for the servants tour an extra cost, butI am definitly going back and doing that again this time I want to see it all.

“What a guy!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

The Mark Twain House is a fabulous place to visit; the house is beautiful, the docents informative, and the person they're all about (Mark Twain) was one of the funniest, wisest writers to come onto the American scene. Harriet Beecher Stowe's house is right next door, so that's an extra added bonus.

“True and Sad Story of Samuel Clemens”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2012

Great and interest lifestyle of the past. Never knew he was such a poor, lucky, poor and sad man. Guess much hasn't changed. He grew up poor, married rich, squander wife's inheritance in building such a luxurious house and then lose it, and later losing his children. So sad.
Listen to your tour guide, its a great insight in to a man who has touch and effected our nation, even to this day. Also schools should continue the reading of his books as well as Harriett Beecher Stow, Clemens neighbor.

“Lots of interesting fun”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2012

Learning about the dual life of Samuel Clemens/Mark Twain via his large rambling restored house was very entertaining and interesting. The house is full of history and beautiful and unusual items. Luke, our guide was very excellent. The grounds are nice. The 20 minute short history is informative. The new modern museum is fine with some good audio and visual displays. It's really a nice visit for 2-3 hours.
