“Great Place to Take The Kids!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2012

It is a great place to take the kids to have fun and even learn things about CT that you never knew! Your kids learn things while having fun! And if you are interested in learning more about your family and want to do a little genealogy on your family their research center open to the public is awesome.

“Don't miss their "Behind the Scene's" Tours!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 3, 2012

Try to go when they have their "Behind the Scene" tours. You will learn all about the construction of the house, the original owners background, and see all the downstairs mechanical equipment that is usually off limits. The men in our group loved seeing the original steam boiler and whole house vacuum system. The second tour takes you into their collection rooms, with several highlighted items. You will learn all about how they collect Connecticut things, and how they take care to preserve them. Check their website to see when they hold these tours, and to find out what their current exhibits showcase. We have learned a lot about the State of Connecticut from their interesting exhibits, particularly about CT made furniture.

“History Rules!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2012

There is one and only one MAJOR place to find so much Connecticut history. Whether you are looking for programs, displays, or just the library of hundreds of thousands of documents that have been donated or are part of CHS's collection, you will look back in awe at your day at Connecticut Historical Society. Grounds are beautiful; parking is easy; traffic to get there is challenging if you come during normal work commute times.

“A great place to go.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2012

The historical society is a great place to go to get an overview of Connecticut history. The exhibit on the settling of Connecticut is geared for people of all ages, including kids. There is an exhibit on early furniture-making in Connecticut. There are also exhibits that change periodically. Don't miss the room full of old tavern signs; it is a fabulous collection, with booklets giving the explanation of all the symbolism. The museum building is an old mansion that is also worth seeing. The library is first-rate and a great place for genealogical research. All in all, the museum is very professional and up to date, focused on making history fun for everyone, and full of beautiful and interesting things.
