“Lots of pizza toppings, yum!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2012

I picked up a to-go order here. It was fresh and tasty pizza with generous toppings. A small is big enough for two people.

“Yummmy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2011

Great pizza a bunch of specialty pizza the potato bacon is outstanding as well as the regular pies and the salads and entrees. They even fill canolis to order. They have a great variety of foods to go in the huge cases. Worth a stop by.

“If you don't want to drive to New Haven for pie, this is good.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2010

Eli's pizza is very good. The place is not fancy at all and is good for kids. It is on the expensive side when you have to order several pies, and the service can be spotty. But the pie is crisp, hot, and flavorful. There is a small deli/carryout at the front, and the tables are behind it. It can get loud, but the pie is fine and the staff good with kids.

“The pizza is alright, the rest is not”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2010

The pizza here is pretty good. If you're looking for something better than average delivery pizza, and don't mind paying $25+ for one pizza, then it's OK. The rest of the food and sandwiches should be avoided. Overall not very impressed with the place.

“Best Pizza in Hamden”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2009

There is rampant confusion in the Tripadvisor reviews because there are TWO (2) Eli's restaurants - right next to each other on Whitney Ave in Hamden.

One restaurant is basically pizza only and the other Eli's offers a wide variety of food. Unfortunately the reviews of these two very different restaurants often gets mixed up here in the reviews.

Eli's Pizza unquestionably offers the best pizza in Hamden and they know it. Add an extra $5.00 to what you'd expect to pay for a pizza. Still it is worth it. While not the equal of the best New Haven pizzerias (Peppes, Sallies, Modern) you won't wait hours to be seated. Expect only a 15 minute wait.

Anyone living in Hamden should try this place. Seating is comfortable (booths), service seems uniformly excellent, and the pizza eclipses just about anything else except the very best pizza in the country (which all of us locals know is in New Haven). Putting aside that high benchmark of New Haven pizza - Eli's is as good as it gets

Quinnipiac College students (who over-run the area) may prefer Primo Pizza due to its extremely low cost and delivery or may even prefer Toninos Pizza because of its proximity to campus. Nevertheless Eli' stands alone within the Town limits of Hamden. For a fall-back I'd suggest Serigos Pizza.

For those of you who are confused - Whitney Avenue in Hamden may have more Pizza joints per mile than any other location in the world. Elis is the best in Hamden but New Haven has better but long waits, difficutlt parking are the order of the day.
