A few nights ago my wife and I were off exit 59 of I 95 in Guilford, CT looking for a quiet place to dine after a long drive. After passing several restaurants that were closed (Sunday evening) we found Anthony's and stopped in, we were glad we did and you probably will be glad to dine there also. I am a pain as a diner, and usually can find something or a few things wrong with any place I go to for dinner, not this time. Anthony's decor was not 21st century but the place was clean open spaced and the food was excellent as was the service.. Our waiter, Sean, was quizzed about several dishes, preparation, ingredients, and so on.. he had the right answers and could respond quickly without having to check on anything about the menu.We started with a small dish of stuffed bread and some cheese (complimentary), then our apps, claims casino done very differently with the cooked claims swimming in the sauce of tomatoes, bacon, peppers, and onions. Great. My wife had the calamari which was lightly dusted and very tender not with a rubber band taste, but just get one order it is plenty for two. I had the veal parm which was some of the most tender I have ever eaten.. my wife had the white clam linguini that could have fed two and again, it was excellent. We were too full for dessert and considering what we had 4 drinks, apps, salad with the dinner and coffee the bill was relatively cheap. We said thank you to the manager, Carol, and my wife rolled me to the car. I am always ready to knock places that miss the mark in some way, but Anthony's deserves credit for friendly service and excellent food. Both items which seem to be in short supply in many restaurants today.
