We chose to stay at this Best Western after seeing the distance it was from Mohegan Sun Casino as we were going for a concert and didn't want to make the drive home in the expected snowstorm. The rate for our stay was very affordable compared to many other hotels that are a little closer and offer shuttle service to the casinos.
We were pleasantly surprised upon our arrival to find that the hotel indeed had a shuttle service to Mohegan Sun, which we were not aware of when we booked our reservation. The front desk staff was very busy when we arrived and although on the phone greeted us with a big smile and welcome to Best Western, and a polite I'll be with you in a minute. Once checked in we were very pleased with our room (2 double beds) including microwave, coffemaker, and refrigerator. The room looked clean and smelled clean, the tv worked perfectly (it is not a flatscreen, but it didn't matter the picture came in well). We put the heat on and in no time the room was toasty warm.
We decided to try the restaurant for dinner - Flanigans (not sure of the exact spelling) and it was fabulous, my daughter is both gluten-free and vegan and they accommodated her needs for a meal and because there was no meat involved with the alternate dish they even reduced her meal price. I thoroughly enjoyed my steak and fixins. It was a perfect stop and well worth the cost before our trip to the casino.
Since the weather had deteriorated the shuttle service had been suspended as they were not going to jeopardize their drivers -- something I totally understood and applauded since even the taxi service had notified them they would be suspending service and so there would have been no way for folks to get back to the hotel.
The next morning I had the breakfast that was included with the room fee and was delighted. Scrambled eggs including both bacon and sausage, homefries, different breads to toast, I think bagels and danish also (not sure as I am gluten free and really didn't pay full attention), french toast, apple and orange juice, coffee and tea -- all you could want for a hearty hot breakfast!
This was a wonderful experience for us. We took the opportunity to take a walk through the facility before we left the next day to view the indoor pool, jacuzzi, sauna's and exercise room and they even had Men and Women bathrooms with showers, which I thought was a terrific plus. I wish we had the time to stay a little longer to utilize the facility more.
We would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the area that is looking for a reasonable, clean, friendly place to stay. I don't think you will be disappointed I know we were not!
