“Appreciated the remodel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2013

Rooms are being remodeled and are set for extended stay. The room we had was very pleasant and welcoming. Had everything we needed to feel at home. The motel is right on the water with great views (from inside or from the deck) of the river and New London - and this is from the first floor. The motel manager, Stephanie & owner John made us feel special, Bonnie at the front desk was very accommodating and genuinely happy to see us. Would definitely go back.

At the end of a long driving day on our journey through New England we encountered Thames inn on the banks of the river Thames. It was as if we left the current times and entered the typical sixties/seventies industrial atmosphere of the USA such as we know from movies like the Deerhunter. To our surprise we were greeted welcome enthousiastically by Stephanie who appeared to be the new manager of the inn. She told us that she was busy with refurbishing the inn out of the shambles that were the result of terrible former management.
We got a room for around 80 dollar and to our surprise this appeared to be the cleanest hotelroom of our whole trip. It was newly painted, had new bedlinnen, a spotfree floor en very clean sanitair.Besides this all, 50 yards away from this inn appeared to be the best pizzeria of the whole region were you can enjoy italian specialties sitting on the outside terrace overlooking the river Thames. We slept very well and brushed the next morning our teeth while watching the boats on the river. This evening and night was surely one of the events that we remember the best when looking back on our holiday.
With this management the Thames inn will be a great place for tired travellers in the days and years to come.

I want to thank you for your review. We have a new manager Stephanie at the Thames Inn and she is doing a great job. She has a real passion for the Thames Inn and she is also helping us at our sister property the Cedar Park Inn ,in North Stonington,Ct . It is so nice to hear from our guest that they had a pleasant experience. Please feel free to call Stephanie when you decide to come back to our area .

The motel is right on the water and in a quaint small town . The staff all make you feel special and genuinely happy to see you . Plenty to do in town and the surrounding areas . We love to stay in these mom and pop type of motels rather than the gimme your money chains . We had such a good time that we have already planned our next stay just before the leaves start to fall . We have been visiting the area for the last 30 years and this was the best . Museums , parks , beaches , hiking , biking all near by . Plenty of good seafood and eateries within waking distance or take a ride along the water to other areas . We met the whole staff from the top on down and everyone was great . You can sit on the dock over the water or take a boat ride . Get there early in the morning if you can and you have your choice of fun things to do before checking in . Don't miss out next time your in the area .

Motel is undergoing renovation - do not be put off by a first impression.
Location is great - right on the Thames with great views of New London and the harbor.
The motel has its own dock if you happen to travel by boat (we didn't).
The Owner/Manager Stephanie is extremely enthusiastic, helpful and friendly.
Our room (102) included a fully equipped kitchenette which we did not expect.
The room was very clean.
This place is quite basic and in transition, however it is excellent value, especially being on the river and just a few miles from Mystic. And Paul's Pasta is a great dinner place literally next door.
For us this was a much more pleasant stay in a fun and characterful local place than in one of the cookie cutter (and more expensive) interstate-side chain hotels.

Last summer we brought our 74' topsail schooner to Groton & New London to participate in New London's Tall Ship OpSail 2012 and had the pleasure of staying at the Thames River Inn for 2 weeks for some much needed R&R.
Located right on the Thames River, this charming property, which recently completed an extensive renovation, provided wonderful accommodations for our crew (we rented both one of their kitchenette suites and a room with 2 double beds.) The rooms were large, comfortable and extremely clean.
And, the river views (especially at sunset) were breathtaking. We really enjoyed watching all the boats go up and down the river (including tugs, sailing ships and the submarines being launched from the nearby base.) For those who don't have their own boat, there are plenty of charter boats available that take passengers for day sails and sunset cruises on the Thames River.
Our crew also enjoyed the generous hospitality provided by the owner John, on-site property manager Mike and the rest of the staff. They went out of their way to make sure that our crew and their needs were taken care of.
As we did not have a car during our stay, we found that most everything we needed (including several great restaurants) were within walking distance of the Thames Inn and Marina. When we wanted to explore New London (just across the Thames River) all we had to do was take our dinghy (about a 5 minute ride) and tie it up at the public docks, next to the train station.
We are already planning our next visit to the Thames Inn & Marina for next summer and recommend it to boaters (and non-boaters) who are looking for a smaller, quaint riverfront motel.

I am learning to stay away from Hotel Chains that are common to me more and more and I am sure glad I did this time too. What a beautiful little place right on the marina and their sunset...so quiet and peaceful. Rooms were perfect, bathroom absolutely clean...loved the kitchen, spotless....In all, my main reason for writing this was to tell you about one certain gentlemen who's hospitality was warm and genuine.....he was the best and deserves more than just a few comments....Mike, you are wonderful at what you do to make anybody's stay there a marvelous experience....You couldn't have been more accommodating with your guests in supplying all their needs. What a blessing you are and I am sure glad I picked Thames Inn....One little side note, the restaurant a few doors up<Paul's Pasta>was amazing too....

Room Tip: Each room had their own little charm. That's all.

Well the staff was friendly. The rooms left much to be desired at the price we paid. The hot water was there sometimes. The room was clean. Curtains to keep out the morning light and outside lights would be nice, sheers don't cut it! I guess you could call it quaint? It needs a lot of work, but it could be a great property. Never did find the remote for the TV, and have no explanation why a picture came off the wall while we were out, exposing the breaker panel. Would I stay here again, NO NO NO NO.

Room Tip: At another hotel.
