“A fresh look at Italian dining ... and drinking”
Solaia is a relative newcomer to Greenwich Avenue, but I hope it endures. Pricy as most places in the area, and a bit pretentious, but different enough--and offering tasty food--to be a desired addition.
The dining room is sunk a bit below street level, and a bit difficult to find. The room is narrow and a bit cramped, but generally quiet and comfortable. The restaurant is titled enoteka, and features an excellent selection of wines by the glass. The menue is full of moderately sized dishes, and the staff recommends combining two or three of those for a good meal. The service is excellent, and the food quite tasty.
The wile mushrooms were unexciting, heavy on fried oyster mushroom. The home-made ravioli was excellent, and both the wine and fresh bread, with generous drips of cheese and oil were delicious. The dessert was good but not outstanding.
