I recently had the pleasure of dining at Solaia. I live in NJ but was visiting family in CT. We decided to give Solaia a try and are we glad we did. The restaurant was lovely, the sevice first rate and the food was incredible. We were informed that the head chef, Mark Manilla, only recently joined Solaia. As I had never dined there before, I don't know what the food was like before he took over but all I can tell you is that he is a real find. Not only is he creative, his presentation is lovely and the food beyond belief. Things that I never would have thought would work together, did exactly that and then some. The next time I'm in CT, I will definitely be dining in Solaia.

“market driven dining bliss”

Solaia is a great breath of fresh air from the restaurants in greenwich these days. New Chef Marc Minella scours the Union Square Greenmarket 4 days a week searching out the freshest organic produce. He combines these with "Raised Right" local organic meats and poultry to round out his menu. Its great to see a kitchen staff that truly cares about what they are putting in peoples mouths. It can be described as a enviromentally responsible restaurant. His menu changes with the seasons so go often to experience the best of what the seasons have to offer. It is a must if your in Greenwich. It'll make you feel as if your dining at a 3 star restaurant in Manhattan!!!!

“Bad Service Overcomes the Good Food”

Went to Solaia for the first time tonight - we will not go back! The food is good but the service is simply so bad that the food will not overcome the absence of service to match the food prices. One problem is that English is not the first language of the waiters - in fact they may not have heard English before getting hired. DON'T GO!

“A fresh look at Italian dining ... and drinking”

New York

Solaia is a relative newcomer to Greenwich Avenue, but I hope it endures. Pricy as most places in the area, and a bit pretentious, but different enough--and offering tasty food--to be a desired addition.

The dining room is sunk a bit below street level, and a bit difficult to find. The room is narrow and a bit cramped, but generally quiet and comfortable. The restaurant is titled enoteka, and features an excellent selection of wines by the glass. The menue is full of moderately sized dishes, and the staff recommends combining two or three of those for a good meal. The service is excellent, and the food quite tasty.

The wile mushrooms were unexciting, heavy on fried oyster mushroom. The home-made ravioli was excellent, and both the wine and fresh bread, with generous drips of cheese and oil were delicious. The dessert was good but not outstanding.
