“Great New Bistro in Greenwich”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2013

Le Penquin has been open for about five weeks, and things are humming. The place was packed last Saturday night when my wife and I went there. The restaurant is small, noisy, and fun. The menu is quite limited. We had the beet salad and the tuna tartar to start. The beet salad was particularly delicious. I had the crispy black bass with a sauce vierge...that is olive oil, lemon juice, chopped tomato, and basil. It was perfectly cooked. My wife had a red snapper special served over vegetables. It was delicate and delicious. Great addition to the Greenwich dining scene.

“Truffle fries...WOW!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2013 via mobile

Great atmosphere. We all had chilled asparagus soups and salads and split truffle fries and assortment of desserts. All were very good. Loved the sorbets and of course the fries.

“Boisterous, but fabulous with great fish”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2013

This guy can really do fish as well as everything else. Great fresh herb flavorings. My red snapper with a super thin crispy sourdough crust was brilliant. All the standard bistro fare done beautifully, tuna tartar had a wonderful subtle fire to it paired with verbena. Really thoughtful french and american wine selection fairly priced. Owners work harder than anyone and are engaging and out front. One of the owner's son is the chef. Personal touch abounds, but be prepared for it to be noisy. The place is small, 12 tables and has hard surfaces everywhere, so one obnoxious group (on this night seven men) can make it really loud. An acoustical engineer could help, but the food is astoundingly good. I hate noise, but still had to give it five stars because of the food. Must have a reservation or go late.
