Our membership in the Alliance Française has given us plenty of opportunities to try local French restaurants. Today a group of us celebrated the arrival of this year's Beaujolais Nouveau by having lunch at Meli-Melo, in Greenwich.
Of course, we had to bring our own Beaujolais, since this is a BYOB restaurant, but this is a minor inconvenience (and significantly reduced the cost of our lunch).
The food was splendid, and the service attentive and efficient. Not at all bad for a restaurant which describes itself as an 'eatery'. The place was very busy, in a warm, bustling sort of way. This is where discerning Greenwich locals have lunch. I can see why.
I started with home-made Rillettes, then Boeuf Bourguinon. A substantial, beautifully cooked lunch. (We'll probably skip dinner tonight). My wife started with a mixed salad, then Crêpe Raclette, which she thoroughly enjoyed.
When it was time for dessert, the restaurant gave us a pleasant surprise, by offering us selections of patisserie, instead of the items on the prix-fixe menu. All of our party took them up on their offer. I had a strawberry tart - my wife had a Religieuse au Chocolat. Outstanding!
They have a separate Patisserie counter, which was extremely tempting. Our friends in the Alliance consider this to be the best Patisserie in Greenwich. We'll be back.
