“Authentic Italian”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2012

Sauce was very good - food was authentic Italian the atmosphere is difficult with the televisions on in the evening and the very tight quarters. They need candles, softer Italian music and no television. Still had a nice meal and the service was great.

“Second visit disappointing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 19, 2012

My cousin and I had eaten dinner at Francesca's a few months ago and had a great meal and service. Last night, 18 May, we went back for dinner. The waitress, different than our first visit, demonstrated absolutely no warmth nor hospitality. During our first time at Francesca's, my cousin, who often salts everything, commented that the swordfish preparation he had was overly salty; needless to say, he didn't have to add any salt. Last night I had the veal picatta; the sauce was extremely watery and salty. With the addition of Calamata olives and capers, there is no reason to add additional salt. Use a lower salt chicken broth. Thicken the sauce so that it will adhere to the penne. Fast food chain restaurants are often accused of using excessive amounts of salt; this time it was Francesca's. Also, something has to be done about the odor of sewage in the entryway.

“Don't be put off by the location or the small size”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2012

The fine Italian cuisine will amaze you. Hopefully they will be expanding soon, because this is the place to eat in Coventry these days. Portions are generous, food is prepared quickly and perfectly, and the leftovers will give you another meal the next day. This is the best Italian restaurant anywhere in this area.

“Cozy and tantalizing tastes”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2012

This small space eatery smells tantalizing as soon as you open the door. The restaurant is located in a humdrum parking lot next to a sketchy bar so the wonderful eating experience is a very pleasant surprise. First time was a pizza "to go". We ordered the "Sicilian" and it was like no pizza before it! Spicy, redolent of garlic and chunks of chicken breast and loaded with garlicky spinach, a truly amazing pie! Second visit a few nights later was a byob experience celebrating a birthday. We were provided with opener and appropriate wine glasses. We ordered the special; Baked stuffed shrimp, good stuffing, large portion, a nice tho traditional choice. We tried "Arancini" for an appetizer. This was new to us but so-so. The only other negative was the Chicken Parm featured overcooked, dried out chicken. Everything else was so good we were able to ignore it. Veal Marsala was scrumptious. Veal Picata was fresh and piquant with great olives and capers. Salads were fresh and bread served was hot and tasty. Bringing our own wine contibuted to the ambiance which is busy with "to go" customers. We will defitinely go back and try other items on the menu. This bistro is a great addition to the area.

“Delicious Authentic Italian Bistro in Coventry, CT”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2012

We went to Francescas to celebrate our anniversary with good friends last night. It's a very tiny bistro (BYOB) but don't let that scare you because the food is first class all the way with really reasonable prices. We had gone to the famed restaurant "Tuscany" in Mohegan Sun the evening before for another friend's birthday and the prices were double there and the food didn't even come close to the quality of Francesca's. It's well worth the wait to be seated (we went on a Saturday night), they presently don't take reservations, but probably should consider that at some point!!! Try the arancini in tomato vodka sauce, the eggplant, the clams - well really EVERYTHING. Reminded us of a small town bistro we went to in the real Tuscany back in 2007, but luckily it's right down the street in the little Town of Coventry!!! We had the benefit of a talented violinist that evening, who played while we dined. It made the evening magical. The only downside is the size of the place, but it's a casual bistro where you will be guaranteed a wonderful meal.
