I went to The Lake with my husband and 3 kids--4,6 and 7. It took 70 minutes to get there from Greenwich.
The 2 oldest enjoyed the more thrilling rides while there was plenty to do for my 4 year old. The morning was very hot so the water rides were perfect and cooling. At around 4pm there was a thunderstorm and the weather cooled considerably. We got showered, changed, then enjoyed the dry rides. Once again, there were plenty of thrill for my older kids and a large enjoyable area of rides for the little ones. I have never stayed at a park before from open to close.
Highlights for me: The circus act was amazing--Cirque du Soleil style.
Free drinks: Help- yourself soda dispensers throughout the park including Pepsi, Mtn Dew, Siera, Rt Beer, WATER, seltzer, and ice... WOW!
The food was a little pricey, but good and we did stop at McD's on the way in and out of the park- right near the entrance.
We ate Pizza in the park for $3+ per slice.

The log ride as mentioned in other reviews was thrilling and beautiful.
During the rain, we were on the train returning from the river ride and really took some time to enjoy the magnificent property--if the weather didn't deteriorate, I would probably not have had the chance to look.
We bought our tickets at Costco for a big savings.
Finally, this is a family friendly park with a great variety of rides to keep the family smiling. I hope to return this season.

“A great family place”

Lake Compouce is a very family friendly, relaxing theme park. They have a thrilling sky ride- yeah, that's right- thrilling. It is a ski lift that goes up a steep mountainside- 45 minutes round trip- for some great views and steep drop offs that curled my toes. The river raft ride is the best I have been on- way better than Disneys. Ghost Hunt is so fun, but usually a long wait- the only long wait in Compounce, besides some water rides on a hot day. Besides that there are coasters, a drop tower and other thrill rides as well as a kiddy section. The drop tower in the kiddy section- Garfield Drop- is adult friendly too- great for adults who are afraid of heights but want to try, or as a warm up to the big drop. The log flume also blows away any other- it goes up the mountain and through the woods- you get distracted looking at the scenery and suddenly there is a drop in front of you. I can't say enough about this small park packed with fun. It is mostly full of friendly, family types... not rowdy thrill seeking teens.

We visited The Lake and had a wonderful day! The park was very clean and well kept. There was something for everyone here. My children, ages 4 and 6 enjoyed the children's section as well as the water park. If you enjoy rollercoasters, Boulder Dash is a must!! It's not for the smaller kids or the faint of heart!
The water park provides an excellent way to cool off from the summer heat. There were plenty of life guards to supervise the water attractions. They also provide life jackets for those who need them. Also, if you need it, as we did, first aid stations were on hand to care for scrapes.
The food was expensive and not really that great. They charged $5.00 for a bowl of macaroni and cheese. I'd bring a cooler in the car and have a picnic lunch next time. There are some tables in the parking lot. The free soda and water was a big plus.
They have small or large lockers that you can rent for a reasonable fee. It's definitely worth it if you plan on using the water park.
The park is just the right size to cover it in one day. The lines were not bad at all. The ride operators were very nice to the kids as well.

My family and I visited Lake Compounce (on 6/17/06) and even though the weather wasn't the greatest we had a great time. Before you go through the gates, your bag is checked. Then we got a bit confused because you had one women outside collecting tickets and later realizing that the person next to her was working behind her. Once we got in we looked around and headed for the Garfield's circus world. The Kiddie rides. I don't think that the Kiddie bumper cars didn't work for a 2 1/2 year old, she couldn't reach the starter button. We still had fun watching her and another boy just sit in the cars. We did the Giant Wheel and saw the park for above. We walked around and found the water park area. The water was freezing cold, but who cares when you're a toddler.
We went in the pool area that had slides of animals. It was great, the slide that's a seal goes down fast and you go right in the water. They provide life preservers, for the children. They had a small slide but my daughter and the other children had to push themselves to move down. We did find a three slides and asked the life guard which was best for a 2 1/2 year old. She said # 3 slide and my daughter when down 6 times, and would have still continued. We ate and I must say the pizza was fresh and tasted great. we also got prime rib sandwiches from the Croc Pot Cafeteria. Let me just tell you for 9.95, you got your money's worth. It was delicious and came with french fries. They provide unlimited soda/pop. The games to win prizes where nice because they weren't expensive. The toys were nice also. You saw people all around the park cleaning and making sure it look great, which it did. The only thing I didn't care for was that people were smoking in the Children's section. But, other than that we plan on returning to Lake Compounce.

Lake Compounce is a great amusement park if you live in CT. I don't know if I'd travel from out of state for it but even if you did I'm sure it would still be a good time. This will be my second year as a season pass holder, due to the fact that the park is 15 minutes from my home. The park is great for my 2 yr old son. There is a healthy amount of rides and attractions to keep the little ones busy all day. My wife and I also love the waterpark. Weekends are very crowded but you can still have a decent time. I would highly recommend a weekday visit if you want little to no wait times in lines. It's affordable and a very clean park. You won't go wrong here.
