Lake Compounce is a great amusement park if you live in CT. I don't know if I'd travel from out of state for it but even if you did I'm sure it would still be a good time. This will be my second year as a season pass holder, due to the fact that the park is 15 minutes from my home. The park is great for my 2 yr old son. There is a healthy amount of rides and attractions to keep the little ones busy all day. My wife and I also love the waterpark. Weekends are very crowded but you can still have a decent time. I would highly recommend a weekday visit if you want little to no wait times in lines. It's affordable and a very clean park. You won't go wrong here.

I took my 11 year old daughter and her 11 year old friend here the Sunday of 2005 Labor Day weekend. We were going to go to Six Flags New England but I feared that it was going downhill, so we gave this place a try. and am I glad we did. It is a very lovely park. It is clean, family oriented, no rowdyism and manageable, with plenty of rides for the girls (I don't go on rides, and there were plenty of benches for me to comfortably wait). All of the ride operators, and persons who were responsible for sweeping the paths, were neatly dressed in a park logoed shirt, and all were friendly and helpful; there were also “management” personnel walking throughout the park, dressed nicely with dress shirts and ties, and everyone wore an id badge. You could tell that the place was well managed and that they tried to really present a nice product, which they did. As for the rides, they have three roller coasters, which were the reason we went to a park in the first place. The girls did not care for Wildcat (a shaky ride, they said) but really loved Zoomerang and, the main event, Boulder Dash (which goes though a forest along the side of a mountain). They came off that ride with exhilarated smiles on their faces. There were several other thrill rides they enjoyed, and had very little wait at all, oftentimes none at all; that was great. They didn't even go into the water park area (which appeared to be more crowded). They also have entertainment, which we didn't do, and a kiddy section. The food was fine, not great (except for the “dipping dots”–they were great, and a lot cheaper than other places, I am told), but not bad, and seemed reasonably priced (especially for a theme park). And a very nice gesture is that they have drink stations set up throughout the park for free drinks of Pepsi products and, at most stations, water. What a nice thing not to have to buy a bottle of water every time the kids got thirsty. And when’s the last time that we went to a place where something like that was given away for free? I highly recommend this park, especially as an alternative to the corporately managed parks which seem to dominate everywhere these days, and in its own right as well. We left having had a very enjoyable time, and feeling good about the day. Even the girls remarked about what a lovely park it was and, to me, it was a refreshing dose of quality and caring that is often lacking in our society these days.
