I visited the Beardsley Zoo yesterday with my 3 year old niece. I was very impressed with the zoo. It was small, but it was the perfect size for younger children, small enough to see everything in about 3 hours with out getting tired. I felt the ground were very nice, wooded, with garden areas, well maintained and clean and in a nice part of Bridgeport. The animal enclosures were also clean and well kept. The only area I wasn't impressed with was the New England Farm area. The goats were kept on concrete instead of grass and all the 25 cent grain machines to feed them with were completely empty. The enclosures for the wolves, bison, and deer were very geneous, I just wish there were more room for the tigers and bears, but I feel that way at any zoo. We had some really great experinces with the monkeys, one of them put his hads up to the window when my niece put her hands up too, and the prarie dogs were very entertaining! The highlight for my niece was the carousel, the only problem was getting her to leave it to see more animals (next time we will go to the carousel last). Also I wouldn't reccommend eating at the cafe, the food was limited and not very good. I would probably pack a picnic the next time we visit. Overall we had a really good time and it was perfect for her age and I think younger kids (under 9) would really enjoy it!
