“Bravo for the Bantam!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2012

Plenty of people live in Connecticut's Litchfield Hills (or visit from NYC on weekends) for the beautiful country surroundings, not because they crave a cultural backwater. Proof of this is the enduring success of the Bantam Cinema, a two-screen, converted-from-a-barn theatre. It's just a little farther than a stone's throw down a side road off the main drag through town. Your reward for finding it is a frequently changing roster of (mostly) indie films that are impossible to find anywhere else for miles (and I mean MILES) around. Treat yourself to a coffee, a selection of teas or a homemade cookie at a snack bar that's better than what you'll find at any megaplex. (Or, after the film, you can grab a beer and some good barbeque just across the street at Wood's.) My wife and I go here a dozen times a year and always enjoy the show.

“The Show Must Go On”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2012

Bantam Cinema, in the middle of nowhere, is a god-send. It features great indie movies that you have to line up to see in places like New York and Boston. On one memorable visit, the technician stepped out and said there was a squirrel in the screening room and if it got out of hand, there would be a pause in the movie. However, the film ended without incident.

“Nice little theater”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2012

We will wait for a movie to come to Bantam Theater, than go see it. It is close to home, has enough leg room for us (we are both 6' and over) and there are no bad seats in the place.

“novel theater”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2012

Bantam Cinema is actually an old barn that has been remodeled into 2 theaters. I'm very thankful it's a neighborhood gem. For people that like to support local businesses instead of megaplexes, it's perfect. The crowds are small, each theater has probably fewer than 50 seats, and I quite often spot celebrities along with the regulars. The movie selction is eclectic, ranging from artsy to foreign to mainstream. I'm only giving 4 instead of 5 stars because the seats could be more comfortable, however ther is plenty of legroom. Also the screens are smaller than your megaplex screens.
