“Enjoyed the food but atmosphere was the best.”

Loved the locals at the restaurant. The food was very good although they were out of many of the entrees offered.

“Memories of Antlers”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2013

As a former seasonal Forest Service worker out of Yampa in the mid-to-late 80's, we gave Antlers our share of business....to drink of course, not to eat. I remember the old bartender Mike, who at first would not serve you a Henry Weinhards Private Reserve unless you were sitting down! If someone would order a Budweiser, he would reply "Why you want to drink that horse p***"?! There was an old juke box in the bar at the time, and only 1 song worked, Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash. Mike used to yell at us for playing that so much! We really enjoyed Mike and our times there, great memories!

“Antler's Cafe and Bar”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2013

Not only good food, but a lot of history if you take the time to ask and listen. We enjoyed sitting at the antique bar and speaking with the "old time" ranchers about the area. Since we know someone who has a place in Yampa, we make an effort to eat and / or have a drink at this historic spot.

“Surprise, surprise!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2013

We ate here twice and enjoyed our meals both times. The first time they had trout as the special - it was fantastic. Our party also had steak (good reviews) and chicken-fried steak (so-so review). We also had the fried pickle appetizer - and they were good. Just know that they're pickle spears, not chips, so you don't need multiple orders - and they're expensive at $1 per pickle spear (we had an accountant in the group who did the math - $6 for an order of 6 spears. Each spear is 1/4 of a pickle. So at $1 per spear and 4 spears to make a pickle, we paid $4 for a pickle - crazy!).

The second night the special was three-cheese ravioli, which met with above average reviews from the group. I had the meat loaf, and it was definitely above average.

Atmosphere: Apparently this is the place to be in Yampa - both times we visited we were asked if we had reservations (despite the restaurant being pretty much empty). We were seated, but grudgingly. So . . . make reservations? Service was just okay, if a bit on the surly side . . . definitely a "you're not from here" vibe. Apparently the diner next door is using up all of the electricity for air conditioning, because Antlers' only ventilation is an open front door (with the occasional waft of cigarette smoke).

Summary: Good food. High prices. Uncomfortable service. Unpleasantly hot.
