this place is decorated in early 70s...It was cold when we were there and the place was freezing. We had Ice in the bath tub from a leak that would not stop.

no maid service... we left some bottles and cans and they charged us an extra 75 bucks...nice....

best thing that can be said for this joint is that it is cheap and you can walk to some restaurants and nite spots which is saying alot for winter park....

if you are there to ski on a budget and do not care about ambiance this is the spot.....

We really enjoyed are stay! We rented the Condo from [--]. We got a very good deal. The condo was in building 8 (there are a lot of buildings at least 25) and was recently renovated by the private owner. The buildings are fairly old, but definately nice compared to the low price of around $100 a night that we booked. Bed wasn't real comfortable, but it was nice to have kitchen, clean bathroom, and comfortable couch. Very close to ski area a short 5 minute drive. Close to shops and resturants, (I recommend Hernando's). The shuttle bus system we didn't use at the resort but it was always running and looked easy to use. We enjoyed are stay at Winter Park! If you are looking for more upscale this isn't the place compared to what the Zephr's lodge, Vintage Hotel, looked like at the ski area.

We had the best skiing experience ever at Winter Park. Don't think we ever want to ski the East again. The Hi Country Haus is a typical ski condo. We have previously stayed in them at Killington, Okemo, Mt. Snow, and Stowe. This condo was one of the nicest we have stayed in. You have to understand that you are staying in a condo, they are independently owned, so you might get lucky like we did and stay in a nice one. We were in unit 1103. A one bedroom/bathroom. Nicely decorated, clean, 2 t.v.s with cable and a DVD player/VCR with a nice collection of movies. The kitchen was nicely equiped.
With 2 kids it would have been nice to have a 2 bedroom. We brought an aero bed. Didn't open the sofa bed so we don't know how comfortable it was. We'l keep that in mind when we come back. Location is great. Very close by to resturants. We had a rental vehicle so we really can't comment on the shuttle service, but there seem to be plenty of them around. We got an unbelievabel deal out there! If we can do the same, we'l definitely be back again!

The condo itself was old and rundown. After lots of searching, we managed to find a few old cleaning rags stashed away in a very messy closet for extra towels. The beds caved in like marshmellow tacos. But, it is one of the few pet friendly places in the area. I was quoted a price when booking that turned into a lot more at check-out. I specifically turned down the cancellation insurance, but it still appeared on our bill. They said that there would be no cleaning fee involved with a two or more night stay, but a cleaning fee still appeared on our bill. Check your bill carefully!

Stayed at the Hi Country Haus Condos for Christmas 2006. We were in building number 10. It was an ok room. Nothing fancy at all about this property. Beds were not very comfortable, small bathrooms, small den area with tiny kitchen. I was not expecting all that much so I guess it was ok. I think you may be better off to pay a little more and go up a step. The worst part of this location is the constant walking. When you go ski ,the shuttle will pick you up right in front of your condo. The bus comes by every 30 minutes to the ski area. These buses will also take you back to same spot in front of your condo from the ski area.

HOWEVER,

At night when you want to go into town it is whole different deal.
You will end up walking out to the main road, about a mile distance. You then can catch shuttle buses into town from the main road. Then when you catch buses at night to come back to the condo they will NOT come down into the condo complex. They drop you off at the main road entrance and you must walk that mile back to your room. This can be a big drag in the freezing cold at night after skiing all day and eating dinner and having a few cocktails. There were times I thought I would fall into the snow drifts and go to sleep and die. It is quite tiring , so if you have issues with walking don't stay here. I was baffled that such a large ski area as winter park had such an awful shuttle bus system. The buses are old run down school buses and do not come around near enough. Winter Park really needs some improvements in this area. I was also dissapointed in the town. It is not a quaint ski town like you would think. It is very spread out and not that friendly of a resort atmosphere. Just something to keep in mind. Also , the hot tubs and pool at the High Haus are in a recreation center. You must check in at the front desk. You can't bring a beer with you and unwind. It is too structured with locker areas and such. I like a simple hot tub where people are free to bring a beer or a glass of wine with them and hang out .

Over all we had a nice time here. But , with that being said, I don't think I would stay here again. I saw several other nicer condo complexes in the area. I am sure the price was higher , but in this case I think it would be worth it to pay another 100.00 per night and go up a step. This is your vacation after all. You should be totally comfortable and enjoy yourself to the fullest. If you have any questions feel free to email me at RARNIM@AOL.COM.

We stayed at the Hi Country Haus for a pre-Christmas ski trip. We had a three bedroom condo, with 3.5 baths. It was perfect for our group of 9. Staying in a condo is more like renting an apartment than a hotel. If you're expecting "hotel" type experience, the condos are not for you. There's no daily maid service or furnished hair dryers or anything like that. But if you want a place to stay with multiple bedrooms, a kitchen, a washer/dryer, a living room with a fireplace, and a place to call "home" for a week, then a condo could be for you. This was our second stay at this particular condo for ski trips this past year. Some of the benefits include Winter Park bus service right to your door, free use of the property pool and hot tubs, as well as being close to the activity in Winter Park. The bus takes approximately 30 minutes to take you to and from the Winter Park Ski area, but only a few minutes from downtown Winter Park. You're also only about 2 miles away from the city of Fraser, which has a Safeway to buy your groceries for cooking. Our facility also had cable TV to several televisions. I think each condo is individually owned and rented by a property management group. So each condo could be "better" or "worse," depending on the owner. It looked like the property was built 10-15 years ago, so you may find some maintenance issues, again depending on the unit. We had a great trip and the unit served our needs just fine, but it's not a "luxury" type hotel facility. If you want to compare it to a "hotel/motel," it's along the lines of LaQuinta or something like that. Hope this helps as you decide where to stay.

We got lured in by the cheap rates....and paid for it with having to stay in a cold, outdated and uncomfortable room. Beds were worn out, we didn't dare take our shoes off on the nasty carpets. We tried to resolve the problem with the front desk, but the rude employees made even that a painful part of our experience. My advice: Pay the extra money and don't ruin your vacation by staying here. My wife will not forgive this decision for a while.
