We loved the Rocky Mountain Inn and Hostel! The price is utterly fantastic for what you get. I had booked a private room with a king and a queensize bed. Both beds were very comfortable. There was plenty of storage space. There was a small refrigerator in the room as well as a TV and clock radio. The Inn is immaculate! Our room had a view of the mountains. (I think all rooms have a view!) We watched dvd's every night. The front desk provides them for free! There is absolutely No Smoking allowed.

Every morning we went to the small private kitchen for breakfast...your choice of 3 different kinds of cereals, oranges, apples, muffins, waffles, hard boiled eggs, eggs for you to fry, hot chocolate, coffee, instant and regular oatmeal, plenty of milk, jams, butter, syrup. There were even some spices on the wall if you decided to cook anything. It was great waking up, going downstairs to make your coffee, and eat your breakfast, at no additional charge. Just make sure you bring some slippers because the kitchen floor gets a little cold. By the second day, I was eating breakfast in my pajamas at the kitchen table and chatting up the other guests. It was great. Bring respectable pajamas and a good robe for this pupose.

The Inn is a very short distance from Winter Park Ski Resort. I can't imagine staying anywhere else if you want to ski Winter Park. Save your money and stay here. I know the Inn is in "Fraser", but I can't even believe Winter Park and Fraser are two different towns, they're that close.

BTW, for $1 you can wash and dry a load of laundry any day after 4:00 p.m. They even provide the laundry soap. (They're in use during the day, so if you have wash, do it in the evening.)

There's even a computer onsite for internet access. Just a very small fee involved for hooking up to the internet. ($2 or so)

Don't let the word "hostel" scare you away. The upstairs is where the "hostel" guests stay. It seems like a really fun place for young people. I didn't get to see the sleeping quarters for the hostel. The hostel kitchen upstairs is a gourmet's dream. Plus there's a living room up there where people hang out and watch tv. If you're ever thinking about booking a family or group vacation, this might be the place to do it!

There is no covered parking, and that is the only drawback I can think of.

Have a great time at the Rocky Mountain Inn and Hostel!

A perfect stay! We had a private room with a lovely king bed. Housekeeping did a meticulous job and the room was spotless. I loved the fact that you have to take your shoes off when you enter, it gives things a homely feel. Price per night in June was a steal. We will definetly be back and hopefully next time for longer.

Lonely Planet strikes again. I took their advice and booked this place. I do not regret it. 25 bucks get you a bed, a locker, a place to store skiis & boots, access to a phone & internet, access to a kitchen, and a TV. Loos & Showers are shared, but there are enough of them to go round, and very clean.

Dorms are gender segregated.

Decent bunch of people around. Mostly single travellers, or students working short-term at the ski resort. The staff are nice & helpful.

Location is not so great. It is located in a little township about 3kms from Winterpark resort. There is a free resort shuttle bus that runs about Once every half hour in peak times (and once an hour off peak). This takes people right to the ski base, through the winterpark town.

There is a nice diner right next door, who do an amazing breakfast. A shopping center across the road has a Radio Shack, a pizza place, and a very nice cafe (the best coffee I had during my 6-weeks in the States). This cafe also has a live band in the evening. There is a supermarket in the vicinity too.

My wife and I just returned from a great week at Winter Park, staying at the Rocky Mountain Inn & Hostel in Fraser.
We booked because of the price, and initially were concerned about the location, as it is in Fraser, adjacent to Winter Park ski resort.
However, unless you are willing to pay the ridiculously expensive prices for being in the only ski-in-ski-out on-the-piste hotel - The Zephyr - then wherever you are in WP you will need to use the extensive Shuttle bus facilities to get into WP.
Apart from The Zephyr, everyone MUST get a shuttle in - even if you drive, you can only get as far as the Vintage hotel car park and then must shuttle in.
So my advice is go for one of the many cheaper accommodations (such as Rocky Mountain Inn & Hostel), rent a car (or take your own), and drive to the Vintage car park and get the shuttle. From RMI&H it's a maximum 15 min drive each way.
Lockers at the base of the mountain are relatively inexpensive.

Also, hire your skis / boards from further out - Ski Broker in Fraser is local to Rocky Mountain Inn & Hostel, and you get a great discount. More important, the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, unlike in some of the shops nearer to resort.

The mountain offers great variety - beginners will love the easy greens available all across the mountain, and intermediates / advanced will find no shortage of blues/blue-blacks and blacks.

I highly recommend brown-bagging your lunches though, as the restaurants up the mountain, especially on Mary Jane itself, and the Derailer at the base of Winter Park were AWFUL. The Derailer particularly was pitiful - after a hard day's skiing, our food was cold and looked like leftovers - we ordered chicken with fries, and halfway through realised our fries had salt and pepper on - while other tables were being brought out fries that had no salt or pepper - so basically we'd been given leftovers! The chicken was awful as well.
However, for apres, there are many great bars and restaurants in Winter Park - our recommendations for food are Mama Falzittos - definitely the best Italian food at the best price, and with awesome service.
The Shed is also great (superb steak, and amazing Alaskan Crab Claws in their surf-n-turf combo).
Finally the Untamed Steakhouse is amazing and well worth a visit.
To avoid are the Moffat Station restaurant - if you are not staying at the hotel, this advertises itself as a restaurant overlooking the Winter Park resort but really is not much more than a buffet and they let us down badly (I desperately wanted ribs, and they had no ribs on, but didn't tell me and then just served up an "alternative" of their choice!
We were also recommended to Smokin' Moe's rib shack in Cooper Creek for ribs, but my wife and I were both sorely disappointed. Lots of food, but qualiyt wasn't great. Maybe look elsewhere.
If you've never been to Colorado you have to try the pulled pork - it's great.
There are plenty of other choices that we didn't get round to in town so knock yourself out.
If you like chinese there is a reasonable one at Cooper Creek, but not to our usual taste.
Rocky Mountain Inn & Hostel hits that middle ground between b&b and self-catered allowing you to have a good breakfast and then either brown-bag or eat out depending on your taste. Best of all, it is right next door to Safeway so you can shop as you see fit. Also right next door to KFC/Taco Bell, and a range of other shops.
This is without doubt the best value you will find in Fraser and Winter Park and we can't recommend it highly enough.
Only negatives about the hotel were that the bath tub was too small - after a hard day on the slopes a really nice soak would have been ideal. But everyone was friendly and helfpul, and the breakfast was worth it's weight in gold. Also has a great kitchen if you want to cook your own evening meals.
Go for it!

Me and my husband stayed at the Rocky Mountain Inn and Hostel in mid August for a week. After much research on accomodations in Winter Park this was the cheapest place to stay in the Frasier - Winter Park area. Summer rates were 79-89 fri. and sat., 59-69 on sun.-thurs.. The place was very clean and well maintained. The inn rooms are on the first floor and the hostel is on the second floor. We stayed in the Meadow Room which is a one king bed room with a small walk out balconey with two chairs with a nice mountain view. The room had beautiful furniture and was simply decorated. A large closet for storing luggage and clothes. The four poster bed was luxurious and very comfortable with high thread count sheets and a plush quilt. All rooms come equipped with a refrigerator and T.V. although reception is not good, no cable if that is important to you but there is an in-room DVD player and you can bring your own DVD's or you can borrow one from their movie list to watch in your room at no charge. A continental breakfast is provided in the little kitchen downstairs. It is all help yourself and clean up after yourself (how they keep room prices low). All utensils and dishes and cookware are provided for you. You can use the huge hostel kitchen upstairs or the little kitchen in the basement area. Also free wireless is available in the rooms for your personal laptop computer. There are family rooms and one handicap room available. Laundry facilities available in basement for 2.00 to wash and dry one load. I would suggest bringing easy slip on and off shoes and house slippers to walk around inside the building as wearing shoes inside the room and the inn-hostel is discouraged and a long shoe rack is provided at the front door for shoe removal upon entering or you can bring the shoes back to your room and place on a provided shoe tray in the room. The staff is very friendly and accommodating in every way. Also inn is within walking distance to Safeway, Taco Bell/KFC and a shopping center and restaurants. I would definitely stay here again. Check out their web-site.
