We booked a great price thru Orbitz and got a Sport Studio. It was perfect for the two of us. Our room was very nice with lots of amenities such as a nice kitchen, nice towels, and a cozy fireplace. I had concerns about having a murphy bed but it felt like a regular queen so that was not a problem at all. Our room had a lovely little balcony and faced the mountain and the ski trail down to the Winter Park resort.

The mountain and trails were fantastic. I am learning to ski so while my boyfriend used the ski trail (very gradual) behind the Iron Horse to ski down to the Winter Park resort, I walked it to the WP resort. I took the free shuttle back to the Iron Horse when I wanted to return to the hotel (it was the first shuttle stop from the Winter Park resort to Iron Horse....very convenient). I could have walked back but the shuttle was great. My boyfriend skied back to our hotel from Mary Jane.

I took the Fast Start ski lessons for beginners and it was fanatastic. It was much more thorough than I thought it would be. It was 2 1/2 hours long and the instructor was excellent. I hightly recommend the Fast Start lessons if you have never skied.

There are shuttles to WInter Park Old Town but we chose to drive there. Had dinner at Dino's Mountain Bistro (loved the baked Brie appetizer).

There isn't much to do at the WInter Park resort itself (not many shops and not very many restaurants) but the slopes and runs are terrific. More places to eat in downtown WInter Park.

I loved the Iron Horse and plan to return next year.

I stayed at the Ironhorse, in a 2 bedroom, 2 bath unit, in the middle of February. We were a group of two couples, and only stayed one night as we were stuck in Winter Park during a storm that closed the pass. Since it was just one night, we asked for something "upscale" and were more than willing to shell out the $525 requested for a little luxury. There was a restaurant and bar on location, which also influenced our choice.

Of course, the bar and restaurant were closed both that evening and the next morning without any apology or explanation from the front desk staff.

The condo itself was okay, but in need of some updating and nothing special. It was clean and maintained well, but the beds were uncomfortable and the linens extremely sub-par. The bathrooms were configured with a seperate vanity area, but resulted in toilet/shower room so small that it was claustrophic... you could barely turn around in them.

We were woken up around 5am by constant, loud, unignorable banging noises; we guess it was the pipes as people woke up and showered. About an hour later a host of other noises chimed in (it really was unbelievable) and both couples were unable to go back to sleep after that.

The only real benefit to this property is that it's ski-in/ski-out - but even that "plus" is less than stellar. To ski in, you have to come down off Mary Jane mountain, which is all black trails at the top with some blue trails the rest of the way - not great for beginners. To ski out, you have to walk (if you are a boarder) or push/skate on your skis down a long, flat green trail. It's torture.

I'm not sure if the price we paid was gouging due to our situation, but definitely don't stay here in a 2 bedroom for more than $200-300 or so a night - it's not worth it, and there are cheaper and better units elsewhere in Winter Park. And you'll get to sleep a little longer in the morning!

Myself, my bf and son (13) travelled fromGatwick to Denver and stayed at one bed condo at Iron Horse Resort during the blizzard in december. Our first impressions of the hotel were good, polite and helpful front desk staff, lobby nice, and our condo was clean, big and comfortable (glad we did book a one bed and not studio) but dated and could do with a lick of paint and updating decor. We stayed at Iron Horse as we wanted to be close to the ski base area instead of in the town where you have to get shuttle bus to resort but on reflection staying in town would have been better and getting shuttle every day to the ski base easier than the other way around for us. We loved the runs, and there were plenty of places to eat on the mountain, very scenic spot at Mary Jane where we had hot chocolate and burgers for lunch one afternoon! Locals all very friendly and helpful and food and drink reasonably priced. Dinos was lovely for dinner and a great place for breakfast was found at the back of cooper square, (cant remember the name of the diner). Skiing was great, loads of choice of runs and lift queue non existent whilst we were there and this was over christmas! Christmas Eve torchlight parade down the mountain was lovely as well! Apres Ski non existent really though and downtown winterpark very quiet at night, much quieter than expected really. Iron Horse Resort was fine for our needs, hot tubs lovely and house keeping staff v friendly and helpful too. Great place for families although those wishing to live it up in the evening would be disappointed but great skiing and locals, without the crowds of more popular resorts.

My husband and I just stayed at the Iron Horse Resort for 4 nights. Overall, the hotel was not luxurious, but it was fine for our needs. We stayed in the sport studio, and it was great for 2 people. It was handy to have a kitchenette, as we were able to prepare our own breakfast and save time and money before we hit the slopes.

Pros:
- ski-in/ski-out access (the lodge is situated on the side of the mountain, and you can access Winter Park resort via the "Corridor" run -- if you're looking at the trail map, look at the bottom left)
- 2 hot tubs
- friendly staff
- on complimentary bus route (you can wait inside and see when the bus pulls up to the hotel entrance)

Cons:
- the rooms could use some updating (towels, linens, carpets, and decor)
- the hotel restaurant was just OK (it has a quaint ambiance, but the food wasn't as good as we had expected - it was OK, but a little overpriced for the quality)
- no internet access in the rooms (you need to go to the lobby with your laptop, pay $5, and access the internet while you sit there)

As a whole, we were pleased with our stay. If you're looking for a place where you can easily access the mountain, this resort is in a great location. If you don't rent a car, and are looking for a place where you can walk to restaurants/bars, you might want to consider another hotel. However, if you have a car, getting around shouldn't be a problem. (This hotel is located about 2 blocks from the Winter Park Resort Base, but you need to drive or take the bus to get to downtown Winter Park.)

A friend and I shared a studio over Thanksgiving. We are huge fans of Winter Park Resort and we chose the Iron Horse because of its slopeside location. Although the Iron Horse is a little way from Winter Park's village and downtown Winter Park, it's the perfect place for people who come to ski. It's best if you can get in building D because that's the one with access to the ski trail. We loved the fact that we could sleep in until 9:00, ski for a few hours, ski right back to our condo for lunch and be back on the hill by 1:00. Also, Winter Park Resort has a shuttle that runs every hour or half hour depending on the time of the season. The shuttle will take you to the village or downtown. The room itself was very clean and modern. Although it was a little "cozy", the murphy bed was quite comfortable and there were plenty of dishes for us to prepare our meals. Perfect for two or three people. Although we never visited the onsite restaurant we did notice they had rail drinks for $2.25 and 35 cent wings-not bad for a ski town. The ski-in, ski-out might be a little difficult for beginners. You ski out unto a flat catwalk which requires a little poling or skating. However, to ski in you have to take Mary Jane, a challenging blue run. If necessary, you could hit a blue groomer off of the Sunnyside lift and then take a catwalk to the base of Mary Jane and then walk up a short way to another catwalk that will take you back to the condo. If you are a beginner this resort might not be the best place to stay; probably better to be closer to the village or downtown. However, if you are coming for the snow you will not be dissappointed with the Iron Horse Resort.
