My husband and I chose the Escape Package for our anniversary. We'd been to the Gold Lake Resort years before, and had enjoyed ourselves, sort of overlooking the rough edges. But now, with the new owner, it's perfect. We stayed in one of the cabins and it was cozy, with a gas stove fire that is set to the thermostat (very nice.) The down comforter was fluffed high. COMFORT comes to mind.
We had dinner in the main restaurant and that was a wonderfully romantic setting, with oil candles on the table, fresh flowers, and sumptuous food. The tables are situated for privacy in conversations and the view. The starters were outstanding, full of tastes and plentiful to share. The desserts were homemade and seasonal, and we lingered a long time after entrees and before dessert, and the stafff was friendly.
And, we still hadn't experienced the best part of Gold Lake Resort yet! We changed for the soaking tubs and were very glad for the heavy duty terry robes with hoods to keep us warm on our very short walk to the lake edge and the natural rock hot tubs. There are teepees for changing, a few steps away. We had been looking forward to the stars and moon, but instead enjoyed a wispy beautiful night of fog. It was very quiet and when we arrived at the tubs around 9 (4 and quite private) we had our choice. (note it was a Sunday...) Breakfast the next morning was a step above as well. The wait staff greeted us and checked on us for any special needs, even though it's buffet style breakfast with breads, eggs, toaster for bagels, and lots of fruit, granola and coffee/tea. Nice music filled the room and altered the mood from the more normal dinner settying the night before. There was a warm fire burning in the fireplace at one end of the dining room and a wall of windows showing us the new falling snow at the other end. Welcoming, details are considered,(like a flaishlight to get you to the tubs!) feedback is requested often. This place is a gem..
