I was in Denver visiting my college roommate and she suggested we go up to this resort for a little R&R. I am a big city girl so I was a little hesitant that this resort was too "earthy crunchy" for me...BUT I tell you it was the perfect balance of rustic luxury! We had a fantastic 3 course dinner followed with a moonlit trip to the hot springs. Breakfast the following morning was very simple but perfect for a prehike meal. It was beyond beautiful...I HIGHLY recommend this as a romantic getaway with your significant other or a ladies spa weekend with your friends, I will def be taking my husband there soon!

My husband and I chose the Escape Package for our anniversary. We'd been to the Gold Lake Resort years before, and had enjoyed ourselves, sort of overlooking the rough edges. But now, with the new owner, it's perfect. We stayed in one of the cabins and it was cozy, with a gas stove fire that is set to the thermostat (very nice.) The down comforter was fluffed high. COMFORT comes to mind.
We had dinner in the main restaurant and that was a wonderfully romantic setting, with oil candles on the table, fresh flowers, and sumptuous food. The tables are situated for privacy in conversations and the view. The starters were outstanding, full of tastes and plentiful to share. The desserts were homemade and seasonal, and we lingered a long time after entrees and before dessert, and the stafff was friendly.
And, we still hadn't experienced the best part of Gold Lake Resort yet! We changed for the soaking tubs and were very glad for the heavy duty terry robes with hoods to keep us warm on our very short walk to the lake edge and the natural rock hot tubs. There are teepees for changing, a few steps away. We had been looking forward to the stars and moon, but instead enjoyed a wispy beautiful night of fog. It was very quiet and when we arrived at the tubs around 9 (4 and quite private) we had our choice. (note it was a Sunday...) Breakfast the next morning was a step above as well. The wait staff greeted us and checked on us for any special needs, even though it's buffet style breakfast with breads, eggs, toaster for bagels, and lots of fruit, granola and coffee/tea. Nice music filled the room and altered the mood from the more normal dinner settying the night before. There was a warm fire burning in the fireplace at one end of the dining room and a wall of windows showing us the new falling snow at the other end. Welcoming, details are considered,(like a flaishlight to get you to the tubs!) feedback is requested often. This place is a gem..

Wonderful healthy secluded scenic spa among the Rockie Mtns within minutes from Boulder. We booked a day escape and received excellent non-interfering service and their meals are healthy. Be sure to hike and kayak on their beautiful lake and use one of many of their relaxing natural hot pools. You will love it.

  • Liked — Relaxation in Nature
  • Disliked — Not enough time
  • Tips/Secrets: — Bring your camera and come early. It's within minutes of Boulder. Great for a day-trip from Denver area.

This is the most wonderful place we have ever stayed. It is worth the price which is way beyond our budget! The cabins are adorable, the service is remarkable and the food is amazing. We absolutely recommend it. Oh, and we hear the new owners are just as fantastic.

Gold Lake was nothing if not a magical experience. We started our evening there with a couple glasses of wine in the bar then headed out to the lake for a boat ride to take in the views of the breath taking continental divide from the water. So quiet and serene that the rest of the world seemed to melt away. It was then that I realized once again how lucky I was to live in Colorado and have a place like this right out my back door. After some leisure time on the lake. I took in a hot stones massage. I can only describe it as an out of body experience. We enjoyed a luxurious dinner in the restaurant and I am still not sure which was better, the food, or the service. After dinner, my honey and I decided to take the last of our wine down to the lake and had a long talk as the sun set over the lake. As the moon came out, we headed over to the hot pools for some quality soaking time. You cant imagine how beautiful the stars looked in the clear night sky. The moon was bright enough that you could just see the snow caps on the divide. After the hot pools we headed fro bed in our little mountain cabin and slept so well we almost missed breakfast the next morning. We will definately be back.
