“Keep on looking”

Rio Cucharas Inn

Sep 9, 2008

The carpet was dirty, had an odor. The bathroom floor was dirty, the bedding did not feel clean, the light over the door on the outside stayed on all night, to much light for the indside of the room. The faucets on the sink were dirty. We did not use the shower. Could not get only 6 tv stations and the tv remote did not work. The bathrub was chipped very badly. We booked the room for two nights, I complained, and the desk attendent said he would not return my money back. Then he changed his mind, and said he only had one more day to work there, and felt it was only fair. He was the same man that checked us in, he was very freindly and nice. So he reuturned one night stay . We went else where, and found a nice clean room, for a lower price. we were visiting our son, that lives around that area, told him do not recommend the hotel to anyone.

My campanion and I stayed at the Rio for 3 nights. we were there to visit family. We enjoyed our stay there even though we were aware that they had been closed for awhile until it was bought about a year ago. the Managers there were very friendly and helpful. They had just replace all the furniture in the rooms and are working on updating the place. We will be going back there in December for Christmas and will not hesitate to stay here again.

We stayed 3 nites in early August, we were well aware that the property had been closed for about a year and new owners with money were in the process of bringing the motel back to it's original quiantness, we really enjoyed the star filled sky in the evening and the quiet.

Although we never used the pool facilities they seemed well used by other guests, our room was large & comfortable with an in room fireplace, which we didn't need to use in Aug.

We have family nearby and plan on reservations again over Christmas to visit, I have stayed at worst motels traveling across New Mexico & Texas, this will be a gem in the future when they finish the updates per the manager whom we met and was very plesant.

We got stuck in Walsenburg by a mud slide on La Veta Pass and made the big mistake of stopping at this DUMP!!

The TV did not work, the air-conditioning was on the fritz, and we were waited on by a surly manager that gives surly managers a bad name.

When we scurried out in the pre-dawn hours, the stairs (rickety and dangerous to start out with) were not even LIT!!!

Can you say lawsuit waiting to happen?

If we had to do it all over again and if this was the last motel with rooms available, we would sleep in the car and take our chances with black bears and hungry mountain lions!

Please do yourself and your loved ones a favor and avoid this dump at all costs!!!

“Worn Out and Run Down”

This motel is worn out and run down. The peeling sign out front should have been a warning. There was no one at the desk when we tried to check in or check out. The roof in our room leaked badly all night and the bed spread and linens were worn out. The stairs were badly in need of repair. The owner's barking dog lunging at a screen door made one of the stairwells inaccessible.
