When I'm working in the Walsenburg area, The Rio Cucharas Inn is now my first choice! Owners Rayleigh and Darrel go far above and beyond the call of duty to make you comfortable. There is always popcorn, iced tea and treats in the lobby, and the continental breakfast is excellent. Food is available 24/7, as the location is 5 miles out of town. If you have a crew staying there for work, they can make arrangements provide an excellent dinner each evening.

The rooms and beds are large, they provide piles of pillows, and for a modest fee they will do your laundry for you.....great for a crew getting muddy every day. And the view out your window is amazing each morning! Room rates are very reasonable.

Unlike some hotels in the area, they don't raise their prices when a snowstorm looms and the mountain passes south and west are closed...they've even let stranded travelers camp on the floor when all the rooms in town are booked.

Thanks again Rayleigh and Darrel! Give your sweetheart dogs another ear scratch from me!

Room Tip: Internet wifi gets sketchy the farther you get from the lobby thanks to the wire mesh in the adobe-t...

Howdy! We are glad we didn't look this place up on trip advisor, before getting stuck by a recent snowstorm, not able to get home, or we might not have stopped here. I'm glad we did. We were safe & warm, & even though they were very busy, we got a room quickly, from a dapper gentleman, that catered to everything we needed. Food, a clean room, and a nice big dog, and his mother, who escorted us safely to our rooms. It is an older building, but classy, & had a lovely fireplace. We stopped out of need, but would go back for fun, & highly recommend the Rio Cucharas. Thanks!

I've never stayed at a hotel that had owners so genuinely concerned about our comfort. Rolly even went as far as making sure we had home cooked meals waiting for us when our crew came back from working in the field. Super nice, genuine people there. I'd highly recommend this place if you are even remotely close to the Walsenburg, CO area. To all the naysayers, keep driving your over priced, status symbol of an SUV to the nearest Hilton and quit harping on the Rio Cucharas Inn!

dirty dirty dirty, so bad we left. ive never done that before and i stay at about 20 to 40 nights a year in hotels. front desk guy refuses to answer the phone and we made the mistake of showing up anyway and trying to stay. strong urine smell, soiled, yes soiled blankets on bed. ive passed this hotel numerous times and could never figure out why it was so empty, now i know!! if you decide to stay INSPECT THE ROOM FIRST!! look very very close at the beds. desk guy has a hard time figuring out how to give refunds until card services gets involved also.

Room Tip: inspect first, you wont stay

We reserved the presidential suite for my birthday and couldn't have been more pleased! I have loved this hotel for its historic features and history of the area, very fascinating. The staff had the fireplace lit and very welcoming features in the room! The staff went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. I slept so good the entire night, the bed was so comfortable and the room was very quiet! Will definitely be back!

after staying, i can tell that every negative review is true because i witnessed or experienced the same and more. desk guy wears no shirt and has pink painted finger nails,,wow! i travel a lot and have stayed in some pretty poor hotels but this is the first time i have felt obligated to warn other travelers with a negative review. instead of wasting your time with a long review just take my advice and run or check with the huerfano county health dept for their thoughts on this place. i'm not sure who owns this hotel but they need to do some on site visiting etc or they're going to go belly up.

Room Tip: pick another hotel
