I stayed here with a small group of students. The views were spectacular, the trails beautiful, and the lodge a delight. The lodge was immaculately clean and the food absolutely phenomenal.

I visited the Lodge with 3 friends. I was pleasently surprised to find spatious private bathrooms with shower in the wooden lodge.
The beds are a little bit hard for my taste, but the location and the great food compensates.
The cook is from Switzerland and spoiled us with great meals (using herbs and vegetables from the garden).
We had a local guide to show us the cloud forest, where we luckily have seen a Ghezal bird!
But we did not even have to leave to lodge to see colorful birds, many hummingbirds visit the feed stations at the lodge.
There is no electricity, but we enjoyed the candlelight dinners.
GREAT!: views, rooms, the lodge, the decks, the common rooms, hummingbirds flitting like jewels, our guide Rogelio, the cloud forest, Armands' cooking & gracious hosting, even the birds, which are not that active in Dec.
Granted, this is not a hotel nor is it for most US travelers: rustic, only 4 rooms, no electricity, hot water only in the evening, 3hour 4x4 drive to arrive from Coban (this is WAY out there); but for those looking for something really special, this is the place.
The Chelemha Lodge is located at an elevation of 2000 m on the edge of the cloud forest. The lodge has 4 double rooms (with private bathroom and hot shower), lounge, dining room, and two observation balconies. Electricity is not available, the lodge is lit by candle light at night. Meals are excellent, prepared with fresh ingredients from the lodge's own vegetable garden. The Chelemha reserve has a network of trails in the cloud forest. Resplendent Quetzals are best to observe during the breeding season from March to May. According to the PROEVAL Bird Monitoring Program, more than 70 bird species have been observed from the observation balcony. Hummingbird feeders on the balconies attract 8 species. I am a professional birding guide and have brought groups to Chelemha since 2003. Chelemha is always a favorite site during a birding tour in Guatemala. Details on the Chelemha Reserve are available online on the website of Cayaya Birding and on the website of the Chelemha Reserve.
