Just returned from another Vail trip!
Tried the new Vail ChopHouse in Lionshead's new village. unfortunately, our party of 4 was totally surprised by the lack of effort in every way at the restaurant. First, upon checking in, the maitre d informed us that she didn't have our reservation, and that this is a common problem at the Vail Chophouse. She said not to worry because there were plenty of tables. Interesting, because when we made our 6:15 reservation, we were told there was virtually no availability and no table for a later time. In fact, there were plenty of tables.
Second, we ordered the New York Strip Medium Rare, and received a well done piece of meat. Clearly missing the mark, they took the steak back and replaced it with a Raw piece that was fit for feeding a lion in a zoo. this steak wasn't rare...it wasn't cooked. It was like a penalty for sending the Well Done piece back! Also, I asked for the Creamed Spinach as was by the waiter that i should try the Mashed Potatoes. Fine, except Mashed Potatoes came with the steak! so now we had 2 mashed potatoe orders...
The other steak we ordered, my Rib eye was ok, but pretty much bland and uneventful.
Basically, this place has a great location, and will survive despite the total lack of service, knowledge or cooking ability.
oh, i forgot to mention this strange dude that walks around claiming he's a magician and attempts card tricks at the table. Kind of weird at a high end steakhouse. The only thing i can conclude is that he's illegitimate cousin of the owner in need of work and didn't pass the bar tender exam.
