A group of 4 of us (all men in mid 30's) just spent the holiday weekend in Vail, CO for a skip trip. We decided to close the trip with a steak dinner on our last night at the Vail Chophouse in Lionshead Village in Vail, CO. Unfortunately this was the worst steak house experience I have ever had. The initial wait just for service was terribly long, our table never had the candle lit nor a bottle of water on it, like the other tables. Now people will always have thier own tastes, but the watier recommended wines to us that we did not like, 2 of the 4 of us had to return the steaks due to them either being well done or very rare..when med rare was asked for. The sides were just not good (creamed spinach, mushrooms, and garlic mashed). Things we asked for were never brought to the table (drinks, napkins, etc). They did not have any coffee (apparently due to a water pipe problem, but we had cold water to drink..not sure why that was). In any even I (nor my friends) are high-maintenance. We are a group of regular guys that were just looking for a decent steak dinner. The flavors were sub par, the service was terrible. Although we did not complain much, the waiter did try to salvage the evening by giving us free desert (which was not bad..). In any event, I do not spend a lot of time in Vail (this was my first trip, but a return visit for 2 of my friends), but none of us would ever return to this restaurant. Although I have not tried it, I would recommend trying Chap's, as they seem to have gotten some good reviews.
