Excellent location
Excellent and most attentive professional staff from reception to housekeeping
Beautiful condominium units
My family has been going to Vail for the past 30 years, but after discovering Montaneros, it is what makes Vail completely special for us.

We chose the Montaneros as mum and dad had stayed here 13 years ago – this combined with the Trip Advisor reviews made us very secure in booking this accommodation sight unseen from Australia.

We were a bit tentative having heard of all the building activity in Lionshead but it did not interfere – it started at 7am but we were getting up at that time anyway. It wasn’t too noisy with the window shut (we liked it open a crack at night).

The condo is beautiful and we were greeted with a complimentary bottle of wine on arrival.

We stayed in 302 which was plenty big enough for 2 families (only 1 child). We had a fantastic view over the pool and (very hot) spa and the beautiful Christmas trees in Lionshead / Lions? square.

The toiletries are Aveda which we loved.

Lots of cooking utensils and a large kitchen made meals a breeze which can save a few $$$ on eating out – important when you are getting only 65 – 70 cents to the US dollar!

The big grocery store (safeway and city mart) is about a 10 min drive – but if you don’t drive like us (Aussies) you can catch a shuttle over – it is free but they do like a tip. Our driver was fantastic and so we tipped him 10.00. There is a little store in Lionshead just about 20 steps from the Montaneros but it is REALLY expensive.

Freebies included hot chocolate and popcorn in the boot room (skis and boots not allowed in condo) plus tea and coffee. Free local calls and wireless internet also.

Everything is located within walking distance (Lionshead). Vail Village is also a short easy 10 minute walk (and believe me I am NOT fit). However if you would rather take the FREE VILLAGE bus it runs every 5 minutes and there is a bus stop right out the front of the Hotel.

Last but most important the staff were fantastic. We had a broken toilet roll holder (which we hadn’t notified anyone about) and it was fixed with our first housekeeping. Nothing is too much trouble – 5 stars!

I stayed at the Montaneros based on reviews in various publications. The best part of our stay at this property was the service that we received. Everyone from the main desk to house cleaning was pleasant and professional. I have stayed at numerous chains (Marriotts, Hiltons, Sheratons etc) in the past, but have never experienced the type of service that I received at the Montenaros (for example: check-in and check-out was less than 30 seconds, free tea-coffee and bottled water in the main lobby, free indoor parking, free internet etc).

  • Liked — Service from all quarters (main desk, house cleaning etc)
  • Disliked — Major contruction next to the property (expected to be completed in winter 2007-2008)

The best things about this facility are the proximity to the slopes, the friendly staff, popcorn in the locker room for boot changing and skis, and enclosed parking.

The minor irritants - finding hot chocolate in my ski boots (the scourge of the locker room), the coffee bar neglected in the afternoons, and the price of the condo.

The worst thing is the rooms are a bit tired and the decor is a mish mash of furnishings/decor.

Their was a flurry of building activity nearby the condo but it did not interfere with our enjoyment.

We stayed at Montaneros over Labor Day weekend and we just made reservations to go back in 3/07. Montaneros is located in Lionshead, there are great restuarants, bars and ski rental located next to the building. The gondola is only 150 yards away. Once we arrived we never used our vehicle again. Everything is located within walking distance. Vail Village is also a short walk, if you get tired of walking you can hop the bus which will take you back to Montaneros door step. This is our first visit to Montaneros since they remodeld the exterior, it looks very nice. We stayed in unit 208 which looks like it was completely remodeled too. We have booked the same unit for our next trip.
The staff at the front desk are very accomodating. We even found the housekeeping and maintenance staff go out of their way to make sure your needs are taken care of.
We have stayed at many places in Vail but this is our favorite.
Hope you enjoy.

We stayed here for 4 days of skiing and were amazed at how great this place was. First off, the location is superior. Probably 75-100yds to the gondola. Also, the bus stops right out front of the hotel. Beneath a portion of this building are a ski rental shop, a liquor store, and a t-shirt shop. (In case you didn't know, regular beer can only be purchased in a liquor store in CO. The beer in grocery stores is 3-2.) There are also mutiple restaurant choices close by. The condo we stayed in was beautiful. There was complimentary wine and coffee in the room, as well as terrycloth robes for going out to the hot tub. The place is well set up for skiing as well. The complimentary ski room has boot dryers, foot massagers, hot chocolate, and popcorn as well as ski storage. The doors on the ski side are double wide with a sensor to open them automatically. This is extra helpful after a full day of skiing and carrying a handful of skis and poles. There was always coffee in the lobby. These condos have elevators and wireless internet also. The hot tub and heated pool were also very nice. Last but most important the staff was super helpful and courteous. The only down side in Lionshead right now is all the construction, but even that is well concealed given the amount of it. I'm already booked for Jan. '07 !!!

Stayed at Montaneros during January. Staff is absolutely fantastic when you need them. Invisible when you don't. Very well located and family friendly. The ski-room is great with adequate space, boot heaters for everyone, foot massage machines and warm popcorn and hot chocolate for the young ones. The units are very clean, spacious and very well equipped. The views from each unit are great. Can't really find a fault. Am returning next winter for sure!

  • Liked — cleanliness, user friendly
  • Disliked — could be a tiny bit nearer to lifts
