Overall this is a great hotel. The service was outstanding. It is a short distance from the Lionshead gondola, and the hotel provices ski valet service. The Lionshead dining and shopping area is perfect for walking around, and the bus to Vail Village stops at the front door of the hotel. We ate dinner several nights in the lobby bar where the drinks were great and the food really good - I believe it was pretty much the same as the upscale restaurant in the hotel but at more reasonable prices. The service there was also outstanding.
We requested a standard king room, but were assigned a double. When we asked to change to a king the front desk staff was able to accomodate us. We did not request an upgraded room because we didn't plan to spend much time there. While the room was lovely, with an updated bath, it was very small. Two people could not pass each other walking around the bed without turning sideways. It was fine for us, but for those planning to spend more time in the room I would definitely request an upgrade to a more spacious one. Another minor annoyance: there was a charge for in-room wireless internet as well as for using the computers in the business center. This seems a little smarmy for a hotel of this caliber and price point.
Other than the small room size, the rest of the experience met or exceeded our expectations. The room rates were pricey, but then everything in Vail is.
